"I was expecting it," said Flores, a machine operator who learned Wednesday that he was getting laid off. "I was prepared because the same thing happened at Levi's."
Just as Levi Strauss & Co. eliminated the jobs of 780 employees in 2002 when the company stopped production at its last factory in El Paso, VF Jeanswear is now paring down its work force here.
Laid-off employees have been notified that they can work through Nov. 24, when they will no longer have jobs at VF Jeanswear in El Paso.
