White House Calls Terrorist Siege of School in Russia 'Barbaric,' Extends
White House Calls Terrorist Siege of School in Russia 'Barbaric,' Extends Condolences
09-03-2004 7:41 AM
By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

MOOSIC, Pa. -- The White House branded the terrorist siege of a Russian school "barbaric" and "despicable" and said responsibility for dozens of lost lives rests with the terrorists.

"Our thoughts are with the Russian people during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Friday. "There is no justification for the taking of innocent life, and the barbaric nature of this terrorist act is despicable."

McClellan added: "The responsibility for the tragic loss of life rests with the terrorists. The United States stands side-by-side with Russia in our global fight against terrorism."

President Bush was briefed on developments in Russia Friday morning before a re-election rally in Pennsylvania. He did not talk about the Russian terrorism during his speech.

2. The usual media illiteracy.
The terrorists occupied the school and took its
students hostage
, the Russian forces lay seige
to the terrorists in the school, but the terrorists did not
lay seige to the school and there was no terrorist seige to
the school.

4. Yet not ONE WORD during the convention
Not one, not one. Surely the omission was noticed - an ongoing crisis from which * was completely disengaged. That is not leadership.

7. I wonder what George has to say about this statement.
Statement from The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria:

We express our deepest condolences and call for an independent transparent international investigation
http://www.chechentimes.org/en/news/?id=21098

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses our deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of all victims of the hostage taking in Beslan. The Chechen nation, having lost 25 % of its population at the hands of the Russian state policy of genocide during the last 10 years, know very well the pain of loosing the loved ones, the horrors of monstrous brutality against innocent defenceless people, children, women and men. There is no a single Chechen whose relatives and friends have not been murdered, tortured or raped by the Russian troops and security services since December 1994.
