(Jesse) Jackson Joins Kerry Campaign As Adviser
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&u=/ap/20040929/ap_on_el_pr/kerry_jackson&printer=1

Civil rights activist Jesse Jackson joined the campaign of Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) on Wednesday as a poll showed support for the presidential candidate slipping among black Americans, a critical Democratic constituency.

The Pew Research Center said Tuesday its latest poll showed 73 percent of blacks supporting Kerry compared to 12 percent supporting President Bush (news - web sites). In 2000, Al Gore (news - web sites) won 90 percent of the black vote.

1. good news . . .
The Kerry campaign said Jackson, who will serve as a senior adviser, will travel to battleground states to energize Democratic support for Kerry and running mate John Edwards.

3. Great news!
I do think that the Pew poll does not necessarily mean that Kerry will not get 90% of the black vote. It's just 73% of the ones Pew polled... when the voting totals are figured after the election, I think the number will much closer to last time. I mean.. how in the hell, after the way the blacks were treated in the last election, could MORE black voters choose Bush? Perhaps it's the religious pandering he's been doing.. but still..

5. The groups of people..
who come into the fold the latest are often the ones who feel most ignored, disaffected and/or wary. This is true not merely for blacks, but working single moms and young people as well. Do I see these people going in droves to BUSH, No. They will either stay away from the polls or go for Kerry. Jesse Jackson does not have the stature among the black community that he wielded in the eighties and 90s but he is still a factor in solidifying the base and getting folks to the polls. As we come in on the final weeks, that is all it's truly about. Getting our base to the polls.
