I think that may be his magic number.

2. Is it possible....
that Bush could get only 46% of the vote and still win the electoral college? That would be total shit.

17. I wouldn't worry about that
Kerry already leads in the battleground states, so if Bush gets 46% of the popular vote, the electoral college would be something like well over 300 electoral votes for Kerry, close to 400 maybe.

the percentage of the popular vote and the electoral vote that Bush gets (as a maximum, I mean).

Perhaps reply #4 didn't get the humor. And I suggest this person isn't what he/she seems. Chris Matthews is a bumbling, shouting little cretin, and Hardball is a joke.

You had Ron Reagan, some wing-nut obscure actor. They were questioning and getting comment from 2 republicans. That's it! No Dems could be found I'm sure.

Good thing is that there were probably as many people watching it as were watching the Dennis Miller show.

What I meant was that you had Ron Reagan Jr, and Ron Silver (wingnut). The two people they had on their panel were Kudlow (FAUX Whore) and someone from the repuke party.

There was no one but Ron Reagan to dispute the talking points. Ron Reagan is good, but when it's stacked 3 to 1 against it is not very fair and ballanced.

9. Kerry remains +18 as to job creation
Oct. 18-20 survey of 976 likely voters (moe 3%), with LV's as likely to back Democrats for Congress as Republicans, with a 47-46 split favoring Democrats. And those that have or plan to vote early were just as likely to back Kerry as Bush, and with Bush job approval at 47% - same as after the first debate.

Terror is all Bush has going for him (Bush at 51% approval handling of foreign policy and the war on terror - and up by 7% on Kerry re protecting the country better than Kerry - a no change from early this month).

Kerry remains +18 as to job creation.

So why is Kerry talking about war?

In the time remaining Kerry should try to change the debate to the economy. That's what really counts. He can't out Bush on the Iraq war, but on the economy he sure can.

13. He's talking about the war/terror to convince voters
the main reason people are boting for Bush is they believe this
is the overriding issue, terrorism.

if Kerry can convince them that bush is an idiot on terror and he's much
more on it, they can potentially swing. they are very unhappy w/ *
on everything else.

14. Cell Phones, New Registrations, Hispanics make poll accuracy difficult
I think Bush is going to be hurting on election night. Polling groups use land-lines, millions of newly registered voters have signed up in the last month, and many of those are hispanic. Me being hispanic and knowing my race, I believe they will tilt to Kerry.

You just need to make sure that you get your friends and family to the polls!

18. Call me crazy but...
I truly believe the 10% increase in registration is nearly all dems. I really don't believe the election will be as close as to require the Supreme Court again.

Ok, let me preface this by stating I'm not exactly a fan of Oprah, but...

She sure has found her political voice at the right time. I do believe she will have motivated women to come out this time. I also feel Moore has done much to motivate slackers & kids out to the polls.

But it is true, however, that these folks need to get themselves to the polls!

> But it is true, however, that these folks
> need to get themselves to the polls!

*WE* need to get these people to the polls. Don't wait to find out if they will get themselves to the polls. This election is DIY.

The reason so many people have registered is that WE made it impossible to miss an opportunity to register. We were at the clubs, the grocery stores, the festivals and the concerts asking people to register. Unfortunately we can't do the same thing with the ballots. These new registrants will have to go out of their way to vote. Will they? I don't know. Most of them didn't go out of their way to register.

Bottom line: if we're not talking to real people, on the phone, in the home, or in the streets - if they're not hearing our voice or seeing our faces, we're letting the election slip. If we want it, we need to tighten our grip.

That will bring out plenty of people who are not strong Bush people but are strongly anti-gay. While they're out "protecting marriage" they'll vote Bush.

91. Well, (8 posts), you at first seem to make sense
but upon further review: People who come out for the anti-gay amendment are already going to be voting Baby Bush, and they are anything but (sic) weak Bunnypants supporters. It's like saying an NRA-type is a weak Bunker Boy supporter, but will vote only because a gun issue is on the ballot. Does that compute? Of course not. You kind of messed up your whole argument there, didn't you?

93. Think it through...
... if you can.

People who come out for the anti-gay amendment may NOT have come out otherwise. There may be people who are not impressed by the Bush and would have stayed home EXCEPT they have a chance to stick it to the homosexuals.

And now that Ohio has given them a chance to attack homosexuals who might they come out to vote for?

Same with your hypothetical gun argument. People can be unimpressed with Bush but come to defeat an anti-Gun amendment. While they're out they will vote for the least repulsive candidate.

It's not an uncommon political strategy.

It does compute. Perhaps you've not paid attention to enough elections.

I'll say this again, slowly so you can understand the small words: People who are anti-gay are NOT people who are "soft" Bush supporters. They would have come out to vote for him regardless.
I see you are now up to 10 posts. Who else was graced with your presence? I have seen more elections than you have posts, my friend. Back to Freeperland for you. I think things through very well, thank you.

42. Smirk is going down
If it weren't for friggin Massabama and Utah, he'd be looking at a total wipeout. I can only think that half this country is mentally ill; he could kick in their door at night, rape their infant daughters, burn their houses down, laugh in their faces and they would still vote for the psychopath.

Just on NewsRadio here, a story about college students, heavily pro-Kerry, are up 25% in registration from last time and HIGHLY MOTIVATED. Kerry has a 53-39 edge in this category.

The Republicans up here in the midwest are claiming they are going to double their share of the African-American vote this year. Heh, that might get them an additional 12 votes. From what I'm seeing, except for the gung-ho military families, no Black person is planning to vote for the thugs.

57. Ask me 2 months ago...
...and I was a nervous wreck inside, contemplating a Bush MANDATE. Wow, that is seriously a scary thought.
Today, the tide has turned. As we all do, I keep my ear to the ground, listen to the chatter at the office, at school, etc. Kerry looks really good right now. Just a gut feeling. Is it just me?

Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 09:18 AM by Wat_Tyler
and at least two of those few posts seem to be an attempt to sow doubt about Kerry's chances.

80. upbeat
I am relatively new here (couple weeks) and if i was spewing propaganda i would be the first to agree with you. However most of my posts have been upbeat. Now are you telling me that a person stating one worrisome fact automatically casts suspician about being some sort of right wing plant sent to create discord and depression. That my friend is paranoid and exclusive

87. Inquisitive people prefer Kerry
If you want to get people on your side do you call them stupid? I sometimes wonder about that question. Even with stupid being such a passe word since the dunce was appointed.

I may not be the brightest person, but dang if your prestigious organization why would you go calling out people like this, losing the veneer of culture that puts distance between you and the people your are using this pejorative on?

Stupid people love Bush
New study shows correlation between decline of IQ and rise of GOP

"Stupid people love Bush" new study proves According to the prestigious Southern California think tank, The Gluton Group, stupid people prefer President George W Bush over Senator John Kerry by a 4-to-1 margin. As Chief Resident Dr. Louis Friend characterized the results of the research, "the less intelligent you are, the more you like Bush." This landmark study, conducted over a 5 month period, involved 2400 likely voters bridging all economic stratas in the 17 states generally considered up for grabs on November 2nd. Participants were tested for intelligence, then asked to fill out a 12 page series of questions involving the Presidential candidates with results released earlier this week.

The consensus: the higher the IQ, the less people trust Bush and respect the job his administration has done. The lower the IQ, the more people admire his steadfastness. "It was pretty much a slam dunk. There's no nice way to say this. Dumb people like him. They think his unwavering nature is a positive personality trait. They even venerate him for never admitting mistakes, even when he's wrong. On the other hand, smart people think he's a lying bully. I mean, c'mon, you have a deserter accusing a decorated veteran of treason. Who's going to buy that besides stupid people?"

84. Ohio poll
I was a little groggy this morning, but I swore I saw on the news a poll showing an Ohio lead to Kerry. Was I still dreaming?

I also note that my MyYahoo! page only reports polls that Bush leads - fuckers!

85. Kerry ahead in Ohio
I live in Ohio and so I've been watching. The majority of recent polls have Kerry ahead here. But we're the swingingest of the swing states. It seems each week the poll leader changes.

Next week it'll be Bush ahead but that means the week that counts will be Kerry. (please please please)

Not that there's not a whole lot of work to do to make sure that happens.
