Bush plan: "No child left undrugged"
bush and drug industry want your kids and you ..on prescription drugs...

http://www.onlinejournal.com/Special_Reports/032805Pringle/032805pringle.html
"On that date at a speech in New Mexico, George W. Bush said mental health centers and hospitals, homeless shelters, the justice and school systems have contact with individuals suffering from mental disorders but that too many Americans fall through the cracks of the current system and so he created the commission to ensure "that the cracks are closed."

The fact is, this is nothing more than another elaborate profiteering scheme hatched by Bush and the pharmaceutical industry to convert the millions of people in public systems into customers for new psychiatric drugs in order to funnel more tax dollars to pharma
David Oaks, director of MindFreedom, a coalition of groups which advocate for the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities, says the plan amounts to "No child left undrugged."

2. I've seen it up close and personal as a teacher:
Americans are drugging their kids rather than actually trying to change what is bothering them.

10. I hate to say it, but the schools are complicit in this drugging as well.
The school counselor tried to convince me to put my son on ritalin, but I resisted. My son definitely had trouble staying focused and staying still through elementary school, but he was not a problem child. In fact, his I.Q. was high, and the counselor tried to convince me that it could be higher if he took ritalin. This was confirmed by a child psychologist's opinion, so I know the belief was rampant. The only drawback, they said, was that if he was susceptible to Tourrets, the medication would make it worse.

I resisted. Then in middle school, he went to a school that required the kids to change classes every hour on the hour. His jittery problem was solved. Never had trouble with that again. And he has a very high G.P.A.

12. More resistance to most govt ideas especially bushfraud ideas like this!
Great job on your part. My son is 6.5 and very hyper. I know that dumb and numb is part of repukes goals.I will not allow my son to be medicated [he like me when I was boy in 1950s before the ADHD dx hit the markets.} I work in this field but with adults and meds are a HUGE problem..Life saver for some BUT side effects for many.

5. This has been going on for 20 years or so! Can't blame Bush for this one.
Once the pharmaceuticals were allowed to advertise their prescription drugs the abuses started.

Americans want "the quick fix".

6. A counterbalance
I'm right alongside you (and so is common sense) when it is said that many parents medicate what are essentially non-medical problems. And I feel bad that overworked teachers too often will grasp at whatever help they can get to manage classrooms crowded with materially spoiled, but guidance-deprived children, and urge medication. And the thought of coercing someone into a medical treatment is outrageous.

I just think it's worth reminding ourselves that *sometimes* these drugs can do a world of good. I know whereof I speak, since I was flunked out of the SECOND GRADE. I still have a note somewhere in which my teacher suggests that maybe I'm a little "slow" and probably won't make it through school. Ritalin made the difference for me - I can remember how much it helped me focus. Now I'm halfway through my PhD at a major university.

I know you know this, but there are cases where medication helps people whose problem is, in fact, a physiological one.

That's all I've got.

7. I agree!
Bush however will abuse and exploit this delicate issue to enrich bush and his power elites..

Think of all the prisoners in all those jails and think of how easy it would be to medicate them..just one example...

Whre there is the bush will {and money}..there is the bush way which usually means bush whcaked..

9. Bush however will abuse and exploit
I'd bet dollars to donughts you're right about that. In fact I'd expect that most assertions which begin with "Bush however will abuse and exploit..." are probably true.

While I believe in even-handedness and moderation, those things don't work as well when dealing with someone who is clearly not acting in good faith (i.e. Bush). People like that will use the attempt at fairness as simply another opportunity to screw you.

If Bush advocates something, it is typically prudent to start from the assumption that it is a bad idea.
