with his latest article in "The New Republic" titled "The Politics of Churlishness: Giving Bush his Due on Middle East Democracy."
Peretz has gone soft on Bush. Liberal are the churlish ones because we won't "see the light" of Bush's removal of Saddam Hussein. What is with this guy?

He is making an "after the fact" determination that securing democracy in the Middle East was really what Bush was all about all along. No mention of Bush's own churlishness, that of selling this war on specious grounds and then arranging for the intelligence agencies to take the blame. Peretz's mind has been bent.
ever since the great disappointment of Leon Wieseltier's defense of Larry Summers speech. It was stale as day old bread. I had previously thought that Wieseltier had a great mind.
Peretz used to be left of center, if I remember correctly. I stopped reading a lot of what he wrote because it always seemed to be dense in Middle East politics, esp. Israel's. This article is such a vast overreach of logic I wonder about Marty's mind.
