Radical Islam's believers beyond reach of reason
Radical Islam's believers beyond reach of reason
By Leonard Pitts Jr.
I think I saw Jesus the other day.

It was only for a second and the TV was on mute. But I'd swear I saw a commercial for a raunchy cable cartoon show that depicted the Son of God as a peeping Tom at somebody's window.

I immediately went out and burned down a Starbucks.

OK, not really. I am used to living in a pluralistic society where reverence is a rare and dwindling commodity. Had I chosen to make any protest, it would have taken the form of a nasty e-mail. Instead, I shook my head and returned to my exercise bike.

1. You can not use reason with the followers of Jesus either. Remember
they believe the world was created as it is by magic and they are destroying our sciences by insisting that their Fairy Tale be taught as just as valid as evolution. No difference. You might say they aren't burning down buildings and rioting, however you know as well as I do that we are headed that way.

2. Oh those muslims are so
igonrant and violent. 10 people have been killed in riots. We really have to bomb their countries and kill 100,000 civilians just to teach them a lesson on how to be civil.

:sarcasm:

That's where these arguments always lead. I have a born-again friend who's always complaining about how violent the muslims are and how we have to go and attack their countries to educate them.

Norwegian Editor Apologizes for Cartoons

Fri Feb 10, 6:15 AM ET

The editor of a small Christian newspaper in Norway apologized Friday for offending Muslims by reprinting caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in January.

At a news conference, Magazinet editor Vebjoern Selbekk expressed regret for publishing the cartoons on Jan. 10, saying he failed to foresee the pain and anger they would cause among Muslims.

The cartoons first appeared in the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten with the goal of challenging self-censorship among artists dealing with Islamic issues.

Behind the cartoon protests

The Monitor's ViewFri Feb 10, 3:00 AM ET

The clash over the Muhammad cartoons isn't just between "the West" and Islam. It's more between Muslims. Protests over the derogatory cartoons were purposely fanned by Arab leaders who need to look like mightier defenders of Islam than the jihadists who want to overthrow them and unite all Muslims.

Many actions by the West serve as merely a foil in a long intra-Muslim struggle over whether to return the Middle East to some bygone Islamic unity of centuries past. The cartoons published in a Danish newspaper were used as an excuse to score points in a bigger game.
.............

The mistake of many jihadists is to think that Islamic unity through the sword can bring the dignity and respect sought by Arabs and Iranians from their governments and the West. But religion can't be imposed.

And to always create an enemy out of Western actions is no way to uplift Islam's image. While the West can do more not to antagonize Muslims, it is really up to Muslims to resolve their internal conflict. So far, the radicals appear on the run, with some at least running toward the ballot box rather than the ammunition box.

5. A fundie is a fundie - but I do blame the Muslims for
Bush's re-election. Without this 9/11 excuse, Americans scared by the "evil horde" would not have voted for this moron.

6. But those very same people who
funded 9/11 are *'s business partners and supposed "allies" in the War on Terror.

If you notice * never actually went directly for the people behind 9/11, he simply diverted attention to a secular country that had nothing to do with it.
