"Markets do not automatically deliver rescue remedies on demand."
http://www.kunstler.com/mags_diary16.html

So what would you guys have thought if Tim Kaine had stood up in front of those cozy flames and given us every thing we wanted to hear and in place of America "can do better" he said "markets do not automatically deliver rescue remedies on demand." Would an anti-free market fundamentalism speech resonate at ANY level with Joe Public? Does it resonate with you all?

1. The whole "free market" thing is very theological.

Markets are OK, but they aren't magic, they tend to fall on their ass when not regulated, Adam Smith recognized that.

Basically, I agree with this guy, our society is disfunctional, and I don't seen any light at the end of the tunnel, any sudden return to order and efficiency, it's going to require a thorough housecleaning in Washington, and I think disintegration in one form or another is as likely as that. Think fall of the USSR and you are in the right general neighborhood.

2. I agree. In fact,
I already see disintegration on so many levels. The shitscape of sprawl is one example. The lack of any kind of customer service at all (at least in my travels).... that's a civility issue...
