LTTE to Arizona Republic: Muslims do live under democracies

Regarding "Islam and democracy don't mix" (Letters, Friday):

The letter writer states that "no Muslim country would ever tolerate a democratic government." Yet the majority of the world's Muslims live peacefully under democratic governments.

Some live in the West. But many live in majority Muslim democracies like Indonesia (population 240 million) and Turkey (population 69 million). - Matt Jewett, Phoenix

Sad how many people are so ignorant of anything outside the US borders.

1. Not just US borders

They're also ignorant of anything outside of conservative Christianity. Muslims couldn't possibly live under democracies not just because they aren't American (never mind the multitudes that are), but because they're dirty satanic heathens.

2. Something about squeaky wheel and grease

People in this country look at the Middle east as being from Pakistan to Libya. Turkey isn't Middle East because there are no terrorists there (warped thinking, I know) and Indonesia is in Southeast Asia (that's definately not the Middle East).

Muslims only live in the Middle East, and only wear rags, speak to Allah and want to blow up America. Turkey and Indonesia don't fit the mold, so they aren't Muslim countries.

Warped thinking, but welcome to Bush's Amerika.

I'm surprised the Arizona Republic(an) published this letter. The Arizona Republic(an) is one of the biggest critics of Janet Napolitano!
