Woman spanked at work awarded $500,000
Alarm company employee found camaraderie-building exercise humiliating
MSNBC staff and news service reports
Updated: 4:35 p.m. ET April 28, 2006
FRESNO, Calif. - A saleswoman who was spanked in front of her co-workers as part of what her employer said was a camaraderie-building exercise will get $500,000 in compensatory damages.

A Fresno jury agreed with Janet Orlando on Friday that she suffered sexual harassment and sexual battery during the paddlings overseen by the security alarm company she worked for before quitting two years ago.

Jurors awarded her damages for emotional distress, pain, suffering, past economic losses and future medical costs. They also agreed that Anaheim-based Alarm One acted with malice, but they rejected Orlando's claim that the spankings amounted to assault.

1. Wow, who came up with THAT gem of an excercise?
Hint: any excercise which involves making employees touch each other's asses: probably a bad idea!

2. Things like this are why...
I would like to see every woman trained in a real martial art, so they can start breaking bones on people who even attempt to do crap like that.

Everyone needs to know how to defend themselves, because a weapon is not always available.

5. Or maybe just some assertiveness training
what the hell is the problem with saying "This is wrong and I am not going to participate"?

She didn't need to defend herself or the assault charge would have stuck, she just needed to say no effing way.

7. Nah.
When the assault started(and it was, by any legal measure, an assault), she needed the skill set to forcefully defend herself.

And the attitude that goes with it.

Nothing says "No!" quite like a backfist, followed by a reverse punch to the zyphoid process and a hard kick to the inside of the knee joint. Then a chokeout. A singular form of communication of one's disapproval.

13. I was thinking of the other side too-sensitivity training
the only thing that makes guys more sensitive is a strategic snip with a pair of sheepshears.
