Cal Thomas argues that "popular culture" has so thoroughly disposed of morality that no one has the right to condemn Mark Foley for his acts of ephebophilia, as if Dominionist Christianity were the only platform that provided a basis for such a condemnation.

1. And who's to blame for popular culture?
The demand for it? Or the suppliers, who will do anything to get the revenue?

3. Cal Thomas has been spewing right wing shit so long he's lost his sense
of humanity. The republicans can forgive their own for anything. Cal wasn't quite as full of pathos for Bill Clinton as he seems to be for mr. foley.

I quit reading his screeching creeds years ago.

4. somebody posted a good article on moral endo vs. exo-skeletons
People on the left tend to learn, internalize, and take certain moral principles for granted.

People on the right, particularly the religious and ignorant, need that moral structure to be external, where they can see it all the time and be constantly reminded of it, or they will become afraid it doesn't really exist. That's why they want to keep God on the money. Whenever they doubt his existence, they can pull out a five and there he is.

5. So Cal's rejecting personal responsibility??
He's blaming big bad culture for Foley's "downfall", and not Foley himself???

I'm reminded of some James Dean juvenile delinquent movie from the 1950s. Or maybe "Blackboard Jungle" with the sullen Vic Morrow..

"They can't help it, it's SOCIETY'S fault!!"

For a conservative, Cal can be pretty smart sometimes. But this is just SOOOO dumb....

7. Cal Thomas - is he still alive?
Oh, maybe I was thinking of Paul Harvey.

Then again, what's the difference?

8. Isn't Cal Thomas kind of a nobody?
I may be wrong, but I always thought he was kind of a bush leaguer who got published in small-town papers because they couldn't afford a first tier Conservative asshole.
