A Major Event
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Friday 20 October 2006

A lot of smart people have been saying for several years now that the number one tactic deployed by the GOP during moments of political stress is simple and straightforward: they aim to scare the almighty Hell out of the American people. Trumped up terrorism warnings, plastic sheeting and duct tape, mushroom clouds as proof ... the list is all too long, and varied only in the depths of coldly calculated depravity displayed by those who would sow fear to maintain power.

A new low, it seems, is about to be reached. Staring down the barrel of potentially historic losses in the looming midterm elections, the Republicans have chosen to fall back on their tried and true method: state-sponsored psychological terrorism. In this case, the terrorism came in the form of a commercial released on Thursday that all but guarantees the spilling of oceans of American blood should the Democrats find their way to victory at the polls.

"Five years ago," reported the Boston Globe, "shortly after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the White House admonished television networks against using video messages from Osama bin Laden. Nonetheless, the new RNC ad shows video of bin Laden and his chief deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, threatening the United States with phrases such as 'kill the Americans' and saying that attacks so far are 'nothing compared to what you will see next.' The ad concludes with the words: 'These are the stakes. Vote Nov. 7.'"

1. Can I share a thought? Pitt's the bomb! I should be lucky to
express myself as well. Thanks, Mr. Pitt. I want to go to Beantown to meet him! And John Kerry!

3. It Doesn't Have to Work. They Only Have to MAKE The MSM SAY It Worked
which will be easy enough when the MSM is trying to explain why the Repubs "won" again.

4. Bingo! I hope we will have heavy exit polling and lots of experts
out watching the voting this time. Has anyone seen "Man of the Year"? It should be seen by all. It is very funny and profound at the same time.

8. That's what I've heard about the movie "Man of the Year" also.
In fact, a DUer posted a great review of that film just after seeing it recently, and it sounds like it can really help the Dems a LOT!

Also, re the voting probs, there's a great piece at YouTube now called "Video the Vote 2006" which I hope a lot of folks will see. It's about how we citizens who want honest, verifiable voting for the upcoming elections can combat the criminality on the part of the Repukes by volunteering to take video of scenes on election day to document any "irregularities" and problems of all sorts that may be encountered.

See it here.

And then there's this newer one I just now viewed, called "Stay The Course." From the comments I read, an awful lot of folks out there are seeing right through this administration and the GOP campaign efforts so far to lean heavily on terrorizing Americans.

Actually, there are a LOT of good videos at YouTube right now that are supportive of Dems and expose R's for what they are. Worth checking out that site for more material like this, IMO.

We simply MUST do all we can between now and election day to reduce the success of Repuke fraud and shady efforts of all sorts in this election! I'm talking to everybody I meet about it, even if I have to strike up conversations with strangers in stores. Most seem to agree with my stand, since I usually open with a comment about "hoping my vote is COUNTED" and expressing my concern that our most precious right is being violated by corrupt criminal politicians. Doesn't take long from there to go in the direction of the guilty offenders!

Word of mouth, bolstered by the Internets traffic including message boards, blogs, and video sites like YouTube and Digg, is what will get our message heard, I believe.

5. Wow. What a shocker. They're calling 'WOLF' yet again.

People see right through them now; even a lot of conservatives. It's a shame, really; once credibility is lost, it's nearly impossible to regain.

7. Fear and greed, appealing to the baser of human emotions.
Has worked like a charm. So far.
