I just read the front page article on Gore's nomination.

I mean, the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The tone of the article in the Tennessean was snarky and, while acknowledging the media spin on Al, perpetrated it with snide references to "Hollywood Al" and quotes from the usual suspects in the state GOP. This does a disservice to us all and is not a reflection of the man we know.

His story is one of transformation. Having endured the crucible of his defeat Al Gore has emerged stronger than ever. President Bush, who will always be linked with his former opponent, also had a transformation of sorts. He stopped abusing drugs and alcohol without treatment. Whether this made him stronger is yet to be seen.

Two men. Two trials. Two outcomes. Which one is real?

There will always be those who believe the most convenient lies over the...well... need I say more?

I just had to get this out.

1. First of all, it wasn't defeat, but robbery. Second, seing Fox covering this
this morning I had a great satisfaction. These are karmic tides we're witnessing.

2. "Then came even more surprising news Thursday from Sweden."
It's Norway not Sweden where the Nobel Institute is located.:eyes:

4. Yes, I just read it. It was basically nasty, demeaning and right-wing.

And, they had to include this:

"I can't see it, myself," A.J. McCall, head of the Wilson County Republican Party, said of An Inconvenient Truth. "I've read too much about the global warming, and there's no basis for their conclusions, there's no science around it. It's just all politically motivated. I think what that tells us is that the Nobel Prize is a prize for being liberal, and not for doing anything that is productive.

"I think it's a dubious award, in my opinion," said McCall, president of D.T. McCall and Sons furniture stores based in Carthage.

Plenty of people are worthy of getting the prize, said Bob Davis, head of the state Republican Party. "I guess Vice President Gore has convinced the Norwegians that he meets the standards for receiving this award."

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't usually go to the head of the opposition political party for a meaningful observation or real information on the opponents scientific stand.

I believe the Tennessean sold out Tennesseans years ago, they should change their name to Gannett Corp., for truth in advertising sakes.

They could've actually ran an enlightening, uplifting column here informing the people of Tennessee, instead they wish to focus on cultural divides probably because the couldn't digest all that crow.

6. I can't stomach my paper anymore.
I'm in the bluest of blue cities, Philadelphia, and the Inquirer has decided that it wants to be "centrist." It does that by having its two main op-ed columnists be conservative (who demonstrate their seriousness with the kind of snarkiness you describe), and by running pieces by Jonah Goldberg and Dinesh D'Souza. I've limited myself to the Sunday paper, to get the TV listings. The other day I was horrified to see they now run Mallard Fillmore in the comics. Yuck, yuck, and yuck.

I find that getting my news online is the best antidote. I'm trying to work up a way to get my TV listings online, so I can cancel the worthless rag and maybe avoid an incipient ulcer.
