The means by which we get our chocolate, diamonds and flowers for Valentine’s Day can be barbaric and even murderous -— but there are alternatives (and no, we don’t mean carob).

4. Not really.
Each paragraph tells how to avoid "tainted" gifts, and shop mindfully and responsibly.

And the very last paragraph has good news about wine, and it definitely says getting loaded on organic fermented grape juice is A-OK.
