Is the ‘Bomb, Bomb Iran’ Brigade Winning?
These are strange and frightening times! It seems to be that human life is being devalued by those with influence and power and what's worse their message that mass death and destruction is somehow acceptable to achieve an end-goal is seeping into the psyches of ordinary people.

On Sunday, the controversial former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told delegates attending the British Conservative Party's annual conference that in his view Iran's nuclear facilities should be bombed and regime-change effected.

Coming out of the mouth of such an abrasive, neoconservative that sentiment is hardly surprising. What is shocking, however, is the fact he was cheered and not jeered.

Thankfully, not all British politicians are as jingoistic. An all-party group of six members of Parliament was stunned by the words of a senior Defense Department official Debra Cagan, who reportedly told them that she hated all Iranians.

One of the British visitors told the Mail on Sunday of his alarm "that some in America are looking for an excuse to attack Iran".

Republican Presidential hopeful Mayor Rudy Giuliani is running primarily on an anti-terrorism platform and has indicated his willingness to use nuclear weapons to attack Iran.

1. It is insanity to even consider bombing a nuclear facility. Those who would
do such a thing are traitors and subversives. They need to be dealt with in the most severe way possible. Why are we doing nothing to stop this insanity?

3. I'm in agreement and I'm game. What do you propose we do? This is where
I always get stuck. Our protests don't work. Our pleas to our representatives don't work. Our endless discussions and irate tirades don't work. So in all sincerity, I'm standing by -- what should we do?

2. If they were winning, they would not be protesting so much.
Israel would not be complaining that the current plan is too weak.

They haven't lost, but this is not "winning" yet.

4. Initially, despite our loud proclamations that this was on the horizon, deep
down I didn't believe it could even be seriously considered for all the usual reasons that have been discussed endlessly here.

But tonight on either CNN or MSNBC there was a program or discussion regarding it that seemed to be taking the possibility very seriously.

This is a nightmare. The kind where you're helpless to affect what's going on, where you open your mouth to scream and no sound comes out, where you're trying to run and you feel like you're carrying 2,000 lbs and pushing through molasses.

I am just speechless.

5. "I have no mouth, but I must scream"
A great sci-fi story by Harlan Ellison, that nicely sums up the feeling.

Also of course there is Munch's The Scream, which depicts the feeling visually.
