Larisa Alexandrovna: Our Cold Civil War (with corporations) & the recent Ft. Sumter
To sum it up: the Moveon.org "Betray us" ad controversy forced Washington to reveal that they do not represent the vast majority of Americans who oppose the war, but instead serve the business interests who profit from it. When Congress ignores the will of the people who elected them and serves a small elite, we are no longer a democracy.

Something happened here, something momentous, but it took me some time before I fully understood what it was that occurred. In the end, it was really not the ad itself that caused such shameless and desperate attempts to muzzle the public. No, the ad was simply a mechanism for a popular opinion. What really frightened the corporate owned and their masters is that roughly 3 million Americans realized that in pooling their resources and standing together, they could take on the big boys. That is to say, they realized that regardless of their differences, they could stand shoulder to shoulder and this sent a wave of panic inside America Inc.

(re. Bush's on his base being "haves & have-mores")
Do you see a single soldier or a family member of a soldier represented in the President's "base?" Do you see a church, a temple, or any other religious organization represented, or a religious object in any way displayed at this "base" dinner? Do you see your political party friends or associates here, dining on food most of you cannot even afford to look at? In fact, do any of these people appear to you to be anyone you know? Does this event resemble your dining experience in general or your access to our dear leader in particular?

The majority of us now know that we are no longer represented by those in elected office. What we did not know until the Senate resolution to rebuke the MoveOn ad is just which of our elected public officials were "with us" and which were most decidedly "with the President." On that point, there is no longer any doubt. Every elected official who voted for condemning roughly 3 million Americans for something so fundamentally protected by the Constitution as the freedom to disagree with the President - does not represent us. Whoever they represent, it is not us.

In the cold civil war in which we are now all fighting to free ourselves from the corporate confederacy, the MoveOn ad was the first direct hit against a monolithic machine thought impervious before.

2. What could happen next?

When the elite take total control and decide that they have no need for the lower classes and popular movements, could nightmare scenarios involving mass terrorism wiping out significant portions of the population become reality? We are already seeing a form of social darwinism taking shape as naive homeowners have been lured into sub-prime mortgage deals, or are offered credit card deals that are too good to be true, only to end up in financial ruin and a form of debtor-based slavery.

Those "financial titans" who have earned the right to become members of the elite also need to feel the significant burden of societal responsibility. Under the leadership of the current Administration and the current Congress the opposite is happening: when events like 9-11 or Hurricane Katrina occur they end up taking advantage of the situation and rewarding themselves, instead of living up to any form of conscientious response. The military-industrial machinery of death have already taken root in the Middle East and threaten to branch out. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

3. Excellent writing by Larisa
Notice she says, "the MoveOn ad was the first direct hit against a monolithic machine thought impervious before."

The "corporate owned and their masters" are now on the defensive. This was just the first direct hit. There will be more hits in the future. Something this corrupt can not continue for long.

4. When we rule, they don't.
The "Washington elites" are our (US citizens in general) enemies. Ms Alexandrovna hits the ball out of the park. If you want to understand US politics, this is the key.

big business merely has to clear their throat and there's a glass of water in front of them.
