Depleted Uranium – Far Worse Than 9/11
Doug Westerman

The arrogance of the Pentagon people is incredible

John Hanchette, a journalism professor at St. Bonaventure University, and one of the founding editors of USA Today related the following to DU researcher Leuren Moret. He stated that he had prepared news breaking stories about the effects of DU on Gulf War soldiers and Iraqi citizens, but that each time he was ready to publish, he received a phone call from the Pentagon asking him not to print the story. He has since been replaced as editor of USA Today.

Dr. Keith Baverstock, The World Health Organization’s chief expert on radiation and health for 11 years and author of an unpublished study has charged that his report “on the cancer risk to civilians in Iraq from breathing uranium contaminated dust “ was also deliberately suppressed.

The information released by the U.S. Dept. of Defense is not reliable, according to some sources even within the military.

Birth defects are now commonplace

Doctors in southern Iraq are making comparisons to the birth defects that followed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII. They have numerous photos of infants born without brains, with their internal organs outside their bodies, without sexual organs, without spines, and the list of deformities goes on an on. Such birth defects were extremely rare in Iraq prior to the large scale use of DU. Weapons. Now they are commonplace. In hospitals across Iraq, the mothers are no longer asking, “Doctor, is it a boy or girl?” but rather, “Doctor, is it normal?” The photos are horrendous. They can be viewed on the website http://www.xs4all.nl/~stgvisie/VISIE/extremedeformities.html

Conclusions

If terrorists succeeded in spreading something throughout the U.S. that ended up causing hundreds of thousands of cancer cases and birth defects over a period of many years, they would be guilty of a crime against humanity that far surpasses the Sept. 11th attacks in scope and severity. Although not deliberate, with our military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, we have done just that. If the physical environment is so unsafe and unhealthy that one cannot safely breath, then the outer trappings of democracy have little meaning. At least under Saddam, the Iraqi people could stay healthy and conceive normal children. Few Americans are aware that in getting rid of Saddam, we left something much worse in his place.

3. The greatest sin.
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 06:14 PM by Gregorian
Everybody knew this. I knew this before I knew about this forum. Dr. Helen Coldicott gave speeches that everyone heard.

4.5 billion years. That is just the half-life.

And the children will suffer. The people will all suffer. And why? Because a country was greedy. And careless. This is the most horrific thing to happen to the human race. A long slow sickness. Forever.

I want to add that while seeing this post it donned on me that there may be a motive for the use of depleted Uranium. Perhaps those using had a plan to make the country uninhabitable. To make it a human free zone for pumping oil.

4. Your last sentence is absolutely chilling, but I'm so full of anger, I
wouldn't doubt it. Except, wouldn't the oil pumpers get sick?

5. Yeah, and?
The oil pumpers will have brown skins, so it won't really matter. You know, just like the people in those wedding parties in Afghanistan.

9. My thinking is pretty far out there.
I seriously doubt I am right. It might be that military planners think of it as an added byproduct. But I think it just happens that it's the one material that will pierce thick steel.

There are no excuses. It's a rough time for people who care. People who are sane. People with common sense.

7. If you Google image search this subject, it will make you weep...
I have been sending info on this to everyone I know, particularly service members; our troops have been guarding contaminated sites in Iraq for years now without proper protection, or without even knowing the risk to which they were being exposed (but the cowardly asswipes who SENT them to do that are the ones "supporting the troops" :puke:)

The toll it's taken on Iraqi children is horrific. But I guess if you're "pro-life" and that only refers to pre-born fetuses (and 'Murkin fetuses at that) you don't much give a shit...which explains a lot, when it comes to the actions of this sorry-assed unelected pile of FILTH in the WH.

10. Bill Clinton
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 07:41 PM by Baby Snooks
Where was Bill Clinton? Enforcing the sanctions that George HW Bush wanted. I will NEVER vote for Hillary Clinton after seeing these pictures. All I can think of when looking at the pictures is Madeline Albright stating that the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children was worth it. These children would have been blessed by death.

Our Congress is complicit in this. Perhaps that is why they refuse to impeach Bush and remove him. Both he and his father should be prosecuted. Along with Bill Clinton. And along with Madeline Albright. And probably some members of Congress who knew. And said nothing.

13. You need to add Koso & Serbia to the list of places we contaminated!
They use it as an armor penetrator from tank weapons fire, sabot rounds, and the A10 Warthog or ThunderboltII is a plane built around the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun. One of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown, it fires large depleted uranium armor-piercing shells. In the original design, the rate of fire was selectable, 2100 rounds per minute in the low setting, or 4200 in the high setting.<13> Later this was changed to a fixed rate of 3900 rounds per minute.<14> The gun takes about half a second to come up to speed, so 50 rounds are fired during the first second, 70 or 65 rounds per second thereafter. The massive shells and high muzzle velocity allow the Thunderbolt II to destroy heavily armored main battle tanks with as few as six direct hits. The gun is accurate as well, being capable of placing 80% of its shots within a 20-foot wide circle from a distance of 1 mile while the aircraft is in flight.

That weapon system was used in Serbia as well as Iraq and Kuwait. Those rounds explode on impact creating a fine DU dust.

14. thanks for bring attention to this matter
With all the stuff that is going on, somehow this important issue hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. Too many people, including my elected representatives, look at me with a blank stare and no clue when I ask about depleted uranium killing their kids and ours for generations to come.

except then the people could at least go somewhere else. The Iraqis are having a harder time doing that.
