The Nation: Lobbyists on the (Clinton) Farm

LOBBYISTS ON THE (CLINTON) FARM..."Rural Americans for Hillary" are holding a campaign event at the end of the month. The only rub, according to ABC News, is that it's at a lobbying firm. In Washington. Which represents Monsanto, the agribusiness giant and scourge of rural America.

Yikes. Maybe the lobbyists can push it back a day and dress up as farmers for Halloween.

UPDATE: This afternoon the Edwards camp weighed in. "While John Edwards was in rural Iowa yesterday talking about his plans to help family farmers, the Clinton campaign was in Washington, DC planning an event with the lobbyists from the biggest corporate agriculture company in the world," says Edwards spokesman Chris Kofinis. "Here's some news for the Clinton campaign, when folks in rural Iowa talk about the problems with hog lots, they don't mean parking lots on K Street."

This is not the first lobbyist-sponsored fundraiser, meanwhile, that Hillary has come under scrutiny for. A week after 9/11, the campaign hosted a $1,000-a-plate homeland security-themed fundraiser at a powerful DC law firm. The lucky attendees enjoyed lunch with Hillary and break-out sessions on topics such as "First Responders" and "National Security" with Clinton-endorsed members of Congress who just so happened to chair key Homeland Security committees.

1. guess that she understands the "way things are done" for the rich and elite...

I loved the big dog, but I now think that my admiration for him blinded me to how he was bitch-slapping Americans with his free trade agreements. Sad - but now that I watch my company enthusiastically "partnering" (outsourcing by a more "friendly" name) my own job, and I hear the great "swoosh" of mid-level American jobs going down the toilet, only now do I realize how badly the big dog shat upon us all.

He was for the people and all about liberal social policies BUT he was also about policies that have sold our middle class almost out of existence. Free trade is all about corporate profits and there is absolutely no protection for the workers or the environment.

I am ashamed that I didn't pay more attention when Bill was still in office. I wonder if it is too late after 7 years of bush to save our fragile democracy.
