Soldier says he faked fatal shots
HONOLULU — The photos of a corpse with two bullet holes to the head may hold the key to freedom for Spc. Christopher P. Shore.

A small, red entry wound is visible on the dead Iraqi's right cheek, a slight indention in the skin just in front of the right ear — the telltale mark of a bullet that grazed the face. The exit wound is behind the earlobe.

The second round, which prosecutors say also was fired by Shore, entered the left cheek and exited through the back of his skull on the upper right-hand side.

Shore has a different version, one that at once exonerates him and indicts Sgt. 1st Class Trey A. Corrales, a San Antonio native who turned 35 Friday — one day after the most dramatic testimony yet in a hearing to determine both men's fate.

"I shot off to the side of his head," Shore explained.
