Yet another dumb LTTE from the Columbus Dispatch
Liberal leanings have ruined our country
Columbus Dispatch, January 9, 2008

This is from one proud conservative to Helen W. Hoehl, who in her Jan. 1 letter " 'Liberal' definition reveals positive traits," described herself as a positive-trait liberal.

Webster's New College dictionary defines conservative as "favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change; traditional in style."

Let's look at the facts since prayer was removed from our children's classrooms: Teenage pregnancy is off the charts, crime is off the charts, drug abuse is off the charts and homicides are off the charts. Abortion is not being used in cases of medical necessity or rape; it is used as a birth-control method, and not once, but over and over again.

Hoehl blamed conservatives for using the word liberal as an insult, and then she presumed to know what Jesus of Nazareth thought. Who does she think she is, God? Oh, my bad: She's just a positive-trait liberal.

LINDA McGUIRE
Columbus

* Heaves heavy sigh*

I am so sick of people like Linda who are totally ignorant but nonetheless have strong, Fox-approved right-wing opinions on the issues. She has packed a lot of false information, innuendo, and incorrect assumptions into one short letter, so for now let's look at just one of her off-base comments: "teenage pregnancy is off the charts."

Here is the data on teen pregnancies in 2002, separated by red states (majority conservative) and blue states (majority liberal), in decreasing order of occurrence:

Linda, if liberals are causing this problem, why does it occur mostly in conservative states? Hello? Linda? Bueller?

1. I so loathe these false cause fallacies

Let's say that for a while, I decided to switch to decaf, and during this time, Bush got reelected and there was a tsunmami that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Does that mean that there is a connection?

2. There are so many flaws in such a short letter.
False statements, unsupported assertions, and logical fallacies abound - why, it's just like watching Fox Noise!

Your point, of course, is absolutely correct. Correlation does not imply causation. Too bad Linda doesn't know that.
