Sandra Duffy (Portland Oregonian): Journalism's first loyalty is to citizens

Imagine my surprise when I read this op-ed piece in, of all places, the Oregonian!

Sandra Duffy is asking the (US) media to get off its butt and start covering the Sibel Edmonds case.

1. I hope Oregonian news editor Mia Bush reads it.

Having penned a stinky reply the other day to a reader who wrote to respectfully urge the media to cover John Edwards' campaign fairly, Ms. Bush called the reader "highly offensive" for daring to criticize.

2. Yes! that's another reason why this came as such a shock.

This issue has been studiously avoided by US media. To see what might be a first US reference in newspapers HERE is astonishing to me.
