Huckabee at Falwell's Church: Ten Commandments better than law
Michael Roston
Published: Monday February 11, 2008

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has won electoral contests by focusing his pitch to religious conservatives around the country. And in a Sunday visit to the church of the deceased Rev. Jerry Falwell, Huckabee threw that base some more red meat.

"We really don’t need a lot of law if we’re people of morality," Huckabee said at the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, according to a report in the Lynchburg News Advance. "There are only 10 basic laws that we need … the reason that the law is more complicated is because we try to find clever ways around those 10."

Additional reports at CBS News showed Huckabee taking his statement a step farther.

"I hope you know Jesus Christ personally…because the level to which he rules you and governs you, you need less and less of man’s law to tell you how to live and that is what our Founding Fathers understood and we must understand," he preached.

6. Considering what an ass Huckabee is that would almost be
redundant.

8. And the whole congregation shouted "AMEN!!!"
 My money would be on George Washington to deliver the ass-kicking...he was tall, athletic, and had a pretty ripe temper.

Damn...I wish I could get tickets to that... :D

5. Only four of the ten involve laws
Don't kill, steal, lie and covet. The rest are all variations of "Bow down to Authority"

7. So Huckabee is admitting he wants to overthrow the Government?
Because that is what making the first four commandments law would entail - a Theocracy.

You shall have no other gods before me
You shall not make for yourself an idol
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy

The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights specifically goes against these...

9. What's Huckabee gonna do, put a gun to his own head?
Office holders swear to defend the Constitution against
all enemies, foreign and domestic, and Huckabee just
placed himself squarely in the category of "enemies, domestic."

There's a place for him in Iran. Maybe Cheney can arrange a guest room
for him at his spread on the Iranian island of Kish, seeing as how Cheney
will probably be spending a lot of time in Dubai, starting in late January
of next year, and Dubai is right across the pond from Kish.

10. Scary stuff. I'd dearly love to
hear our presumptive nominees Clinton and Obama jointly read Huckabee the riot act --- publicly, forcefully, loudly and before a lot of live TV cameras. I'm not holding my breath.

15. Huckabee obviously knows nothing about American History
or that the Founding Fathers wanted religion OUT of government for a very good reason--ministers tried to usurp power in MA during the 1690s. A little incident called the Salem Witch Trials.

Oh, and Mike, hate to tell you this, but the TWO commandments of Jesus supersede the 10 of Moses.

18. Yeah all we need is less laws - then churches would be free to build up big
enterprises using charitable donations and "spin off" for profit businesses with few or no consequenses. "Who me?" says "Diamond" Pat Robinson.
