Clinton Calls for Escalation Against Venezuela
Statement from Hillary Clinton - 3/3/2008

“Hugo Chavez’s order yesterday to send ten battalions to the Colombian border is unwarranted and dangerous. The Colombian state has every right to defend itself against drug trafficking terrorist organizations that have kidnapped innocent civilians, including American citizens. By praising and supporting the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Chavez is openly siding with terrorists that threaten Colombian democracy and the peace and security of the region. Rather than criticizing Colombia’s actions in combating terrorist groups in the border regions, Venezuela and Ecuador should work with their neighbor to ensure that their territories no longer serve as safe havens for terrorist groups. After reviewing this situation, I am hopeful that the government of Ecuador will determine that its interests lie in closer cooperation with Colombia on this issue. Hugo Chavez must call a halt to this provocative action. As president, I will work with our partners in the region and the OAS to support democracy, promote an end to conflict, and to press Chavez to change course.”

This is 100% wrong. Hillary acts as if the “event” is not the Colombian attack in Ecuador, but the Venezuelan response (Ecuador, the country whose sovereignty was violated, is an afterthought.) . According to Hillary, Colombia has “every right” to “defend itself” by violating Ecuador’s sovereignty — that’s the event — but if Venezuela sends troops to its side of the Venezuela-Colombia border — its own national territory — that’s “unwarranted and dangerous.” Hillary says that “after reviewing the situation,” she is hopeful that Ecuador will determine that its interests lie in “closer cooperation with Colombia” — the country that just flagrantly violated its sovereignty — than with Venezuela, its ally that is speaking up against the violation. She is hopeful that Ecuador will lick the hand that beats it. As president, she will work with our partners in the region and the OAS to press Venezuela to change course. Good luck with that. It’s the U.S. and Colombia that need pressure to change course — to forswear violations of international law and to choose real diplomacy.

6. I have a problem when she supports * view on anything.
The Administration is probably involved in stoking the fire against Chavez and they are licking at the chops to send our military down for one of *s vendetta's.

8. Colombians have been crossing the border and pushing for years.
And our troops are down there helping them out. Plan Colombia...

Indeed, this is one of the few times I missed a prediction on what a W admin would do. I fully expected Iraq and a Colombian/Venezuelan war back in 2000.
Back burner, I guess.

14. Thus "The Military Complex?"
My very first vote went to General Dwight Eisenhower (sp), I proudly wore his campaign buttons and became politically active. 50+ years later, his warnings of a takeover by the corporate industrial military, seems to have come to full fruition.

My father, uncles, etc., fought along with IKE to rid the world of a deadly fascist maniac - Hitler. Now my firstborn grandson, who bought into the fear and faux patriotic rantings of our very own home-grown maniac fascists who have been given uncontrolled power to destroy not only our own constitution/democracy but whoever and whatever Nation gets in their way.

Ironic that the largest US military base in Iraq is in the middle of Iraq's largest oil fields.

Ironic that our homegrown fascists have been openly trying to rid Venezuela of its duly elected leader Chavez - dead or alive because he is unwilling to play the puppet for the US fascist corporates. Ironic that Venezuela, has a large oil-field.

Ironic that the BFEE, purchased 6,000(?) acres of land in Paraguay. Ironic, that the land purchased within Paraguay sits atop the world's largest, purest water aquifer in the world. Ironic that serious scientists and environmentalists are fighting to be heard about the shortage of water for our world.

In the past, Columbia was notorious for it deadly drug cartel and the amount of drugs produced and shipped not only into our country but through out the world. Columbia not Ecuador or Venezuela was the drug capital of South America, yet now Hillary Clinton seems to be adding to the BFEE voices for US Military intervention to help Columbia???

Something really stinks in this new call for military intervention? Will this new call to arms involve initiating THE DRAFT and how much more money will we have to borrow from China to payoff the Military complex??? It sure isn't going to the troops for equipment, training, death benefits, or medical care.

Forgive my ramblings/rantings. Many of my young family and friends did not live thru WWII - VietNam and have nothing to compare therefore many buy into the fear propaganda that gives cover to the fascists dirty work. My elder friends who actually lived and remember Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, cannot believe what is happening to our country.

9. Screw Hillary.
Chavez is no saint, but I think I'd exchange him for any of the 3 candidates remaining.

Good grief. Have we learned nothing? Is this the best we have to choose from?

11. Been Saying for Months that Hilary is a Republican in Drag, but
Now she has come out of the closet (sorry for the imagery my fellow GLTB friends) and she is no longer in drag - she is showing who she is - a McCain like republican. She has always been a republican - she did start as a Goldwater girl, until that bastion of libralism, Yale got her thinking for a while that there really are children who need to be defended (she worked for awhile after law school with teh Children's defence fund). And, when she followed Billy to Arkansas, one had to be a democrat to get elected in the South until Nixon and Gingrich and the evangelicals turned the south republicans. Then going to New York, to get elected by the voters in upstae New York she has to appear to more like the old fashioned New York "liberal"republicans, like Javits and Rockefeller. So, now that she is in teh final push to steal the democratic nomination by any means (and I do mean MEAN!) she now must shed her drag and show her republican vampire fangs because the fight will be for the dumb-ass undecideds, independents and nervous quasi-liberal-moderate disafffected republicans. And we do know that Bill loves a woman with a strong bite!

16. Here's a clue--both Obama and Clinton are foursquare in favor of imperialism
which means essentially that the US elite and their local elite cat's paws deserve to treat the entire population of Latin America as disposable human garbage. You will never hear a word from either about the ongoing slaughter of labor organizers in Columbia, accounting for half the world's total.

19. Hands off Latin America
How about that for a US policy?

Contrary to MSM opinion, they do have governments, leaders, and sane policies "down there".

They don't have, and don't need, trillion dollar defense budgets and world-class killing-machine-type military apparatus. Let us not be the enablers on the supply side of a human meat grinder.

20. Hillary Kissinger
Colombia (Alvaro Uribe) has mass-graves of Colombian citizens, from military-linked Right-Wing Death Squads.

Where's the outrage, Hillary? Where's the coverage, New York Times?

Imagine if Chavez had Death Squads & mass-graves.
