Lynndie England blames media for photos
BERLIN - Lynndie England, the public face of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, told a German news magazine that she was sorry for appearing in photographs of detainees in the notorious Iraqi prison, and believes the scenes of torture and humiliation served as a powerful rallying point for anti-American insurgents.

In an interview with the weekly magazine Stern conducted in English and posted on its Web site Tuesday, England was both remorseful and unrepentant — and conceded that the published photos surely incensed insurgents in Iraq.

"I guess after the picture came out the insurgency picked up and Iraqis attacked the Americans and the British and they attacked in return and they were just killing each other. I felt bad about it ... no, I felt pissed off. If the media hadn't exposed the pictures to that extent, then thousands of lives would have been saved," she was quoted as saying.

Asked how she could blame the media for the controversy, she said it wasn't her who leaked the photos.

"Yeah, I took the photos but I didn't make it worldwide. Yes, I was in five or six pictures and I took some pictures, and those pictures were shameful and degrading to the Iraqis and to our government," she said, according to the report.

1. FUCK YOU!!
Why The Fuck Can't People Admit REALITY!!

Instead it's nothing but EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES!!!

Well, FUCK YOU!!

The pictures were shameful & degrading, because they showed what was happening.

I guess in these people's world, anything that is shameful must be hidden and kept secret. It's better that the world not know what LYING, HYPOCRITICAL, TORTURING BASTARDS we really are.

So just shut you fucking mouth, and be thankful you have friends who can get you out of jail, you Bitch.

4. Is Lynndie Really A Female?
I just saw some photos of her, and Damn Is She UGLY!!

Looks like she feel out of the tree, and hit every branch on the way down.

The best part about her Wikipedia entry is the beginning sentence. "Lynndie England Is A Convicted Felon."

In September, she'll be Dishonorably Discharged.

WHY IN THE HELL DO PEOPLE LIKE HER GET A FORUM TO SPEAK IN SOCIETY? She should be shunned, humiliated and insulted, not interviewed for some magazine.

5. Excuse me isn't this the same " person" who at trial said
"they made me do it"? More right wing moral values exhibited I see. Say one thing when theres no risk, then blame someone else when there is. What don't she get? No pics of her or taken by her = no chance of the news media getting their hands on pics or better yet, if you don't break laws you don't get prison time. Wheres that republican responsibilty we keep hearing them say the Dem's lack?

8. Joe Bageant's essay on her in 2004 is worth reading again
as a reminder of where she came from:

Mash Note for the Girl with the Leash

(snip)
Lynndie England never had a chance. Abu Ghraib, or maybe something even worse (an RPG up the shorts, for instance) was always her destiny. Nearly half of the 800 Americans killed in Iraq to date came from small towns like hers, like mine. Forty-six percent of the American dead in Iraq came from towns of less than 40,000. Yet these towns make up only 25% of our population. Most of the young soldiers were fleeing economically depressed places, or dead end jobs like Lynndie had at the chicken processing plant. These so-called volunteers are part of this nation's de facto draft -- economic conscription. Money is always the best whip to use on the laboring classes. Thirteen hundred a month, a signing bonus and free room and board sure beats the hell out of yanking guts through a chicken's ass.

And there are those big bucks for college later. Up to $65,000. Lynndie was supposedly going to college after her enlistment to become a "storm chaser," like in the Helen Hunt movie "Twister." Yeah, right. There are millions of openings in the tornado chasing business. And I'm going to be the centerfold in the next Playgirl beefcake issue. I suppose lots of poor kids do go to college on their military benefits. But personally speaking, I can count the number I know who actually did it on one hand. Let's be honest here: graduating from a small town redneck white high school not knowing where Alaska is on a map of the US is not exactly the path to the fountain at Harvard Yard. But I suspect that down inside Lynndie knew her lot in life from the start -- she wore combat boots and camo outfits to high school. Swore she loved it. If you are doomed to eat shit, you may as well bring your own fork.

9. Thanks for the link and the reminder...
I am not condoning what Lynndie England did, but it's apparent now, years after she became the poster girl for Abu Ghraib, that such treatment of Iraqi prisoners and Gitmo detainees was and is condoned by the Pentagon and the Bush administrtion. Hell's bells -- Bush just vetoed a bill that contained anti-torture measures!

Yeah, yeah, let's all pile on Forrestina Gump from West Virginia.

10. For those who want to read the original article
Here's the link to the original, full-length, English-language newspaper article from the German paper (Stern). It's interesting to note that the headline to the original newspaper article is Rumsfeld Knew.

11. England deserved punishment, but...
Higher officials got a free pass. It was their idea to treat these prisoners the way they were treated. they too should be locked up, IMO>
