Obama Chose Right Word: Who Wouldn’t Be ‘Bitter’ About Being Bushed?
Obama Chose Right Word: Who Wouldn’t Be ‘Bitter’ About Being Bushed?
by Robyn Blumner

Barack Obama may have been a little too blunt in his now infamous quip about how the economic insecurities gripping small-town America manifest themselves, but the word ”bitter” perfectly sums up my feelings these days.

You bet I’m bitter.

I’ve watched my country get hijacked by a group of self-serving incompetents who have little conscience about sending young men and women to die in an unnecessary war, while putting the bill on a credit card for the next generation.

You bet I’m bitter.

I’ve seen some of the greatest moral handiwork of modern civilization - the Geneva Conventions - get treated as if it were the naive ramblings of out-of-touch do-gooders. I’ve watched the founding principles of our nation - the inalienable right of due process of law and the checks and balances of three equal branches of government - treated as a copse to be mowed down on route to the unitary executive.

You bet I’m bitter.

I’ve stood by as the wealth of our nation has been concentrated in the hands of a tiny elite while the middle class struggles to tread water financially. I’ve seen our tax policies shift to benefit this small group, starving our national treasury of needed resources and making it far less possible to prepare for the future by investing in infrastructure, education and shoring up Social Security and Medicare.

You bet I’m bitter.

1. I am bitter and have been
I don't know whether bitter or mad matches what I am going to say. I am disabled and am on Medicare but I have a supplemental. Anyone going to the HMO I go to has a supplemental. I am tired of seeing out elderly cry when they pick up medication. Every year the co-pay goes up and the cap goes down. There are plenty of elderly going without needed medication because they know if they take it daily, their cap will run out before December. I have to play around with my medication also but not to the extent these poor people go through. If you need lab work it's $25.00. If you need a specialized test it's from $50.00 to $250.00. For some people it may as well be a million. And if I hear one more puke say they should have planned better-I am going to hit them.

People are bitter. Just go to the grocery store or to get gas. I just came home from the grocery store. A woman had tossed some meat back into a cart. At first I thought she was being tacky but then I decided I was acting like a neocon. The poor woman asked how much an onion cost. She had no "junk" food. She had real food. She was so relieved when she saw the total and then retrieved the package of meat and paid for it. It just isn't right.

Thanks for posting. These past years have been brutal. Democrats must gain control of the WH and the legislative branch. We have to heal.
