2. Lincoln and Douglas both would laugh

at what are called debates today! And I think the Illinois farmers and tradesman who listened to the nine debates would have jeered them off the stage if they had talked in "sound bites" rather than frame their arguments and using logic. If you ever have a chance to hear actors speaking the words of the debates and speeches of the time, you'll know that what was done back then was gold; what is taken for debates now is dross.

3. It was dramatized and ran on a series of tv shows,

many years ago. Possibly PBS but I really can't remember. Just remember they were spell-binding. Would love to see them run again.
