Iran: Crushing Response Awaits Israel
Iran will use all means at its disposal to react to Israel if anybody poses a threat to the country, a top Iranian military official says.

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and an advisor to the leader of the Islamic Revolution made the remarks on Monday, adding that it was unlikely that the Zionist regime could afford a defeat against Iran that would be heavier than its humiliating defeat in the 33-day Lebanon war.

"Iran will benefit from various (military) systems and numerous power leverages to respond to the Zionist regime in the wake of any threat from that country," Rahim-Safavi told Fars News Agency.

He said that during the Lebanon war the US forced Arab states and the Lebanese government not to take any action against Israel.

"While the US encouraged Israel to attack Lebanon, it hindered attempts to reach a ceasefire and after the war it prevented the collapse of Olmert's government."

Rahim-Safavi said the presence of more than 200,000 US troops in the Middle East could fuel tension in the region adding that "certain incidents" could happen in a period between May and November.

"The incidents can be either attacks to overthrow Hamas government (in the Gaza Strip), missile attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon, or stepping up pressure on Iran," he explained.

"We (Iranians) should be at the highest level of military and intelligence preparedness as well as self-confidence," the former IRGC commander underlined.

On the possibility of a US military attack against Iran, he referred to Washington's "bitter experience of defeat in Iraq" to argue that a ground attack against Iran is unlikely.

"They clearly know that Iran's situation is way different from Iraq given its vast territory, high military preparedness, political structure and a 70 million population loyal to the Islamic state."

"If they commit a folly and attack Iran from air or sea, they will certainly receive a crushing response from the Iranian armed forces," Rahim-Safavi underscored.

He, however, added that the US forces are unable to launch a third war against Iran in the region besides their military presence in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"They know that how vulnerable their forces are in these two countries," the senior commander concluded.

4. It is not in ANYONE's interest, and I do not believe it will happen
Of course we must remember that when Israel was starting to engage in peace talks with Syria, it was the bush administration who stepped in, and told them to back off

When North and South Korea were trying to have a dialog with the Sunshine talks, it was the U.S. who told South Korea to back off

When Bill Clinton left office, a situation presented itself where negotiations between Israel and the Palestians could have proceeded, leading to a Palestinian state. Instead the U.S. did NOT take over where Bill Clinton left off, and essentially had a hands off policy for illegal settlements to continue

The sooner the current administration is out of office the better for us and the world, of course that is if a Democrat wins, hopefully Obama, because Hillary has made pretty controversial statements, but even she is better than mccain
