Bush Distorts World War II History In Speech To Air Force Graduates
Source: Scoop Independent News

George W. Bush may not be much of a president but his latest comments comparing his Iraq war to World War II indicate he is even less of a historian.

In a speech prepared for delivery today (May 28) to more than 1,000 graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Bush links the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to postwar Germany and Japan six decades ago, the AP reports.

“After World War II we helped Germany and Japan build free societies and strong economies (and) …today we must do the same thing in Afghanistan and Iraq,” Bush asserts, according to text released by the White House to AP.

The flaw in this analogy is that it is Bush who is the aggressor in the Middle East, not the conquering liberator out to generously rebuild vanquished foes. Bush will go down in history with Germany’s Hitler and Japan’s Tojo as a war-starter, not as anybody’s redeemer. Besides, it’s hard to rebuild a country whose people keep shooting at your “liberators.”

Bush’s America is not the America of FDR, a mind-our-own-business republic with a strong streak of isolationism that went to war only when attacked. Instead, Bush, the war-maker, lied to gain public support for his attack on Iraq just as Hitler lied to the German people when he attacked Poland.

2. Bush's invasion of Iraq is similar to Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion
of the USSR.

3. and Obama gets national harassment for not being 100 percent certain
which death camp his great uncle helped liberate ... (and somehow, the pundits at Faux knows his family history better than he does?)

which death camp--in the case of Buchenwald, nothing like Auswitsch--his non-uncle (a great uncle, but we'll let that slide) helped liberate.

And it was a repeat gaffe. A few months ago he went on record saying how his family told of his uncle's conversations with other troops under Patton's command that liberated Auswitsch and Treblinka. Of course, unless the other troops were Soviet, that was also false.

Nobody caught him the first time, so he wasn't forced to fix his error. Historical accuracy, not a strong point (we've seen on a few different occasions).

Now, Obama's point was valid: The horrors of war make soldiers a bit strange, so they need psych services when they return. F --> T is a true inference, and no pointing out how erroneous the facts are that the conclusion's based on will ever make that a false inference, as long as it's true that "they need psych services when they return".

On the other hand, the same is true of *'s discussion of post-war Germany and Japan. Because, surely, Iraq will need reconstruction help as much as others did. The polls about what Iraqis want and what happened pre-occupation are beside the point; not mentioned, not distorted, not misrepresented, if the article quotes everything that's relevant to this argument. In this case, T --> T must be a false inference, because we need it to be so--or, if we buy Sherwood's logic, F --> T must be a false inference. But my logic table that told me F --> T and T --> T were both true back in '97 still say that F --> T and T --> are both true inferences.

7. 6 posts, and so far nobody's mentioned
that Bush was a HISTORY major at the undergraduate level. That needs to be said over and over, every time that worthless ignoramus opens his yap about anything in a historical context.

'Course, we all know that he spent his college years either stoned or drunk on his a$$. And no one could graduate college so stupid in their MAJOR field of study unless someone was taking all their exams for them.

How far America has fallen!! :banghead:
