Debate 3- Obama should lead with something like this
"Before we begin I want to turn to Senator McCain and address him directly. Sir, I want to thank you for your words and your respect in the townhall meeting* in Minnesota last week. I appreciate your kind words and defending me. I can assure you that I honor you as a person and your service to this country in exactly the same regard. Thank you sir."

*don't describe the townhall meetings those who know what happened there will know what that means and those who don't will have to look it up.

Something like this sucks all the air out of the room, takes the highroad, and undercuts any attacks McCain HAS in his pocket at the debate.

The first two debates were supposed to be 1) McCain's topic (though foreign policy was usurped by the meltdown of the conservative ideology) and 2) his preferred forum. Now McCain has to pull a rabbit out of a hat including proposing yet another economic plan. To quote Allen Raymond from "How to Rig an Election" (half way through it-highly recommended) as he would have told his client running for the RNC co-chair in 1997 "Show up with a fetus in a jar and you might stand a chance." or maybe McCain will have his spokesmodel (Palin) appear on stage with the jar.
