Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy

Dec 16 05:58 PM US/Eastern

US President George W. Bush said in an interview Tuesday he was forced to sacrifice free market principles to save the economy from "collapse."
"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system," Bush told CNN television, saying he had made the decision "to make sure the economy doesn't collapse."

Bush's comments reflect an extraordinary departure from his longtime advocacy for an unfettered free market, as his administration has orchestrated unprecedented government intervention in the face of a dire financial crisis.

"I am sorry we're having to do it," Bush said.

But Bush said government action was necessary to ease the effects of the crisis, offering perhaps his most dire assessment yet of the country's economy.

"I feel a sense of obligation to my successor to make sure there is not a, you know, a huge economic crisis. Look, we're in a crisis now. I mean, this is -- we're in a huge recession, but I don't want to make it even worse."

1. if you have to abandon them, they're not principles

a "free market economy" is a theoretical construct.

4. a true 'free market' would have to include a total lack of priciples.
in the end, the whole concept of a 'free-market' is a myth.

7. Lies, lies, and more lies. As usual.
He knew exactly what he was doing. He created a panic so that he and his buddies could loot the treasury, enrich their buddies, and bankrupt the nation so that Obama couldn't accomplish anything. They duped Congress into going along by creating the panic that has now shut down consumer spending, further worsening the economic downturn.

He doesn't believe in the free market. He believes in power. He saw an opportunity to seize more power for himself and his friends, and he took it. I'm not listening to any nonsense about "principles" from him.

Wouldn't know a free market if it fell out of the sky, sat on his face and started to spin.

9. But wouldn't that suggest that...
"free market principles" are at least in part the CAUSE of the collapse? hmm...
