Focus on the Family: Glenn Beck’s a Mormon? Eeek!
The hate-filled folks on the Christian right are engaging in a bit of infighting lately over Glenn Beck. Seems extremists Underground Apologetics have bullied Focus on the Family into abandoning a nice article of Glenn Beck’s innocent “The Christmas Sweater.” Meanwhile, heads explode at the use of “innocent” and Blenn Beck” in the same sentence.

1. An alcoholic Mormon?
Gee, I thought Beck's religion was flaming assholism. Who knew?

5. While I'm not a big Mormon fan
I'm a bit surprised at all of the animosity towards them on here.

6. Proposition 8
I don't think there was such animosity before that.

7. Yea, Prop 8.

I mean that it's because of Prop 8 not Yea (as in "yes" on Prop 8).

10. In the interest of full disclosure
A good friend and a man I respect, a police officer, worked for a long time in his off hours for Beck as a security consultant. He has only praise for Beck. I've never figured out what merited the praise.

12. I'm not saying this to start a flamewar
But I don't see any difference between any of the cults -- Mormonism, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Prebyterianism, Catholicism, and so on -- beyond size and age.

14. I really don't either
All religions are cults. But as far as strangeness goes the Mormons are up there near the top.

15. Mormonism seems very strange to me, too, and yet
Edited on Mon Dec-29-08 10:03 AM by DavidD
how much of that is due to Mormonism's relative newness, and its founding myth being set in historical times? E.g., Moroni and the golden tablets on one hand, Moses and the tables on the other.

Magical clothing shows up in other religions in various forms; maybe the underpants connection is what makes one variety seem odd.
