What we are seeing in the Republican party is a repeat of 6 or 8 months ago.
Palin is talk radio but "rebranded" "repackaged". A great package it should be: attractive, a mom, successful, etc. but it didn't work. It wasn't just the interviews that did her in it was her prepared remarks, her stump speech. The reaction from news junkies and the general public was basically "What the hell is she talking about?"-she was talking as they do on talk radio and that is a world that the non-indoctrinated find odd and disturbing. Those familiar with it have been immune to it but that is a small part of the population.
Now since Palin is sort of gone out comes the old model. Rush Limbaugh. Take 10 pounds of sh*t and put it in a burlap sack (as opposed to Neiman Marcus wardrobe) and you can't even get someone to buy it let alone come back for more.
And where did this start? When Obama told the Republicans "You are not going to win listening to Rush Limbaugh". The attack machine went into high gear. They had their individual, their idol to exult, they had their confrontation...problem is that no one will take it off the shelf because they know what is inside the packaging. Negative advertising won't bring in anyone new.
And where has it taken them? The only thing they have going for them is unity of message (aside from money for marketing). Hammer it home. Day after day. Dominate the 24 hour news cycle...problem is that now they are infighting and shattering to bits their own message. It has turned on itself.
They also are openly talking about rebranding themselves. Coming up with a new package. But the product inside is still the same.
