David Copperfield and the Financial Bailout
Which David Copperfield? Both: the magician and Charles Dickens' David Copperfield.

At issue is who should be saved. Should the bankers be magically saved as if David Copperfield the magician made the last eight years of political and financial shenanigans disappear?

Or should we the people be saved? As in the David Copperfield character Mr. Micawber. "A gentle man who befriends David as a young boy. He suffers from much financial difficulty and even has to spend time in a debtor's prison. Eventually he emigrates to Australia where he enjoys a successful career as a magistrate. He is based on Dickens' father."

The moral of the Mr. Micawber story is that Mr. Micawber's wife is right, he has a great deal to offer, but he can't because he's in a figurative and literal debtors prison. Once free of his prison, he becomes a contributor to society.

This is the current case for the American people who now live in a debtors prison. The financial and political shenanigans of the past eight years have put them there. They cannot contribute to America. That's the real reason why America's economy is faltering. Without a workforce of inspired and motivated citizens, our country can no longer be the great economic engine it once was. Americans are forced into an exile from the freedom that our fathers and grandfathers fought for. The freedom that they also gave to the crooked banksters and politicians.

The same freedom that the crooked banksters and politicians used to betray our country using the tricks of the magician David Copperfield.

The bottom line is that we all want Obama to succeed. Yet we fear that because we are no longer free, America will not succeed. That after the stimulus money is spent, we will return to the bush depression. Only, we'll be further in debt that no magician can help us out of. And where will the politicians and banksters, whom we voluntarily and involuntarily supported, be? Will they help us as Mr. Micawber's friends helped him? They'll all be counting the money that they stole from us.

The only future for America is one of debtors prison. But the good news will eventually be that those who betrayed us will follow the same path as Uriah Heep, the villain of David Copperfield. He went to jail where he was truly humbled. That is the future for the banksters, the bush politicians and Obama's politicians who have so far done nothing but "forget" to pay their taxes.
