99 Potential Job Openings in Iowa
It some Republican state Senators in Iowa have their way, then County Recorders there will resist issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian citizens. The Senators are denying the whole thing, while also whining that religious rights are being abused! Oh the HORROR! Iowans, get your resumes ready, County Recorder jobs could open soon.

1. Weren't there a few town clerks that quit in Vermont some years back?
I seem to remember that a few town clerks in VT quit rather than certify civil unions for gays 9 years ago.

2. Quitting is good
But not doing your sworn duty is not. If they quit we can officially call gay marriage in Iowa a jobs program for progressives.

3. Also for owners of restaurants and reception venues.
Some of the starchy Republican types here on Rep. Steve King's turf (Iowa's very Republican Fifth District) will be too busy snapping out white tablecloths and typing up reservations to complain about who's marrying who, I think.

4. Of course
this will be a boon to Iowa tourism. But Republicans aren't usually all that good at the economics stuff to realize that benefit.

5. This reminds me of the (Republican) lady I know who RANTS about Social Security
and how it takes money away from people against their will -- meanwhile her own mentally disabled grandson gets a SS disability check every month -- and she has not yet realized there's a connection.

Maybe it's like Octumom believing she doesn't take welfare -- but "there are programs for people to use if they have needs."

Are you thinking the restauranteurs and reception-hall venues won't be savvy enough to deliberately cater to the out-of-state marriage trade? Could be. I always overestimate Republicans.
