Breaking News: Senator Arlen Specter to switch parties
Excerpt:

Specter told the Washington Post, "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

Earlier this year, Specter, along with fellow Republican moderate Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, broke ranks with their Republican colleagues and voted for the Obama sponsored stimulus package.

See the rest here.

1. Which is a sideways approach to saying, the Dems have moved Right to me.
Ok,a filibuster proof democratic senate would seem great. So why do I have this dread about what a center-right fillibuster proof senate is actually capable of doing?

5. True. But, is this a sort of irrational anxiousness?
It's hard to be in a constant state of anxiety. It warps the mind.

4. Where did this center-right talk come from?
The only people using that term are Republicans; I certainly don't agree.

6. The republicans and 50 Dem congress critters and all of Bayh's Blue Dogs
it seems.

But then my reference to the "center" is anchored in the politics of 1965.

3. He's smart. Only way he's going to keep his seat in PA.
But really - Spectre is pro-choice and is more in line with Democrats of late. I'm sure he's tired of the chastising he gets from Pukes.

His changing parties is a good thing.
