Excerpt:President Barack Obama was sworn into office on January 20, 2009. The new president faced a nation in turmoil. The economy had nosedived over the year leading up to his election. Wall Street had failed, banks were asking to be bailed out, there was a mortgage crisis and the U.S. was involved in two wars.
President Obama ran his campaign with a message of hope that struck a chord in a majority of voting Americans. Even the most seasoned skeptic dared hope that the new president would live up to his promise when he stepped into the White House.
It has only been 100 days since President Obama took the oath of office. He came out of the gate at a gallop and hasn't slowed down yet. The president has traveled to three continents, met with over 90 leaders from nations around the world and held numerous press conferences and town hall meetings. He passed the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act, pumping billions of dollars into a failing economy, signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, signed the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act and has begun the process of closing Guantanamo Bay as well as the process of ending the Iraqi war. He even managed to get the puppy he promised his daughters on election night, a Portuguese water dog named Bo.
