Dowd: Neocon Coup at the Department d'État
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/06/opinion/06DOWD.html

Let others fight over whether the war in Iraq was a neocon vigilante action disrupting diplomacy. The neocons have moved on to a vigilante action to occupy diplomacy.

The audacious ones have saddled up their pre-emptive steeds and headed off to force a regime change at Foggy Bottom.

President Bush staged a Texan tableau vivant last night, playing host at his ranch to the secretary of state, his wife, Alma, and his deputy, Richard Armitage. Mr. Bush wanted to show solidarity after a Washington Post story on Monday that said that Colin Powell, under pressure from his wife, said he would not be part of a second Bush term, nor would Mr. Armitage.

Mr. Bush might be trying to signal his respect for Mr. Powell, but the president is not always privy to the start of a grandiose neocon scheme.

1. Sometimes I wonder ?
Is he actually that stupid, that he doesn't understand, what the neo-cons have done. Or did he really go over there for retribution for his dad.

3. I think Bush is like stepson of VP candidate in "Manchurian Candidate"
Brainwashed. Confused. Set on a Path to self destruction by a fascist mother (and father).

Stupid? Yeah.Used? Yeah.

Complicit? In this case yup.

2. It seems to me that
Maureen Dowd is finally seeing just how devious this neocon crowd is.

5. Why does it take someone so obviously intelligent so DAMNED
long to see the obvious ? I just don't get it. It's like she can run through sophisticated word-games in her mind all day, but she can't SMELL something really BAD ! Perhaps mental facility is just NO USE in getting the big picture.

4. I'd like to see Alma Powell pop her cork
in the media about her pillow talk with Colin. Wouldn't that be fun?

This whole neocon world domination BS, with chimpy as their figurehead, needs a watergate style 'deep throat' news leaker. All we can hope for is that someone in that administration has an 'attack of conscience'....but I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
