Mattel may cut jobs at Fisher-Price in outsourcing move
April 27, 2010, 6:45 am

More job cuts may be coming to East Aurora's Fisher-Price.

Its parent company, Mattel, has confirmed that, "after a lengthy due diligence process," it is outsourcing the company's information technology work to Indian company Wipro.

But there is no official word yet on whether East Aurora employees will be affected or if so, how many of them.

"While there will be some impact on IT positions throughout the company, at this time we are still working with Wipro to identify which functions will be impacted, so I cannot speculate how the transition will affect jobs at each Mattel location," said Jules Andres, director of corporate communications for Mattel.

The only switch that is certain, according to Andres, is the company's transfer of its Phoenix technology center from Phoenix to Wipro.

"As always, we are committed to ensuring that any impacted staff will be treated fairly, in a sensitive manner and with recognition of their contributions to the organization," said Andres.

The job cuts were foreshadowed in Mattel's first-quarter earnings call earlier this month, when it commented to investors and media that it was "working on outsourcing IT infra structure" as part of its strategy to cut costs. Mattel reported a surprise 12 percent increase in revenue for the quarter ending March 31.

2. It's not hard to see why some of us are considered "Debbie Downers"
when any of the "Economy is Recovering" stuff is met with negativity. I don't even bother to look at that kind of positive spin propaganda stuff anymore, when it's apparent to me that we are still bleeding jobs here. Maybe not in the huge #'s that we were shedding 2 years ago, but shit, 400 here, 700 there, 75 somewhere else, it still adds up, and more importantly, one more family negatively impacted both financially and emotionally, for years to come. It's damn near impossible to recover what has been lost once it's gone.

Thanks for posting these articles. It is important to keep our eyes open and not be blinded by M$M positive spin BS. It's only by not ignoring the bad that we can truly begin to recover.

:hi:

8. President Obama could create all the jobs we need overnight.
By simply placing substantial tariffs on all imports.

You know that Mattel will continue to sell their crap here in US markets. They just wont be making the stuff here.

So tariffs would force Matel to move the jobs back to the US.

But of course that would mean the US would be in violation of NAFTA, CAFTA and all those other "free" trade agreements.

Have we given up our sovereignty by making these one way trade deals?
