Tea Party leaves 1776 questions unanswered
My first question when invited to Saturday's Midsouth Tea Party's LiberTea event -- where they planned to "Party like it's 1776!" was a practical one.

If I went, whose slave would I be -- since in 1776, a black woman would almost certainly be enslaved?

Organizers never answered my question, but I decided to go anyway.

And I'm glad I did.

1. It took a lot of courage to walk in there and ask those questions.

I remember when I was in the service - a black airman took me and my buddy (both white) to some airman's club function on base. I don't recall details of where, (we were partying like it was some year or another and it has to have been over 30 years ago now) but me and my buddy had the only two white faces in the place. I remember feeling quite self conscious for a while, but I also remember thinking about how it must feel to be black and be constantly surrounded by people who are white - never mind the hostility thing.

3. Next time she should remind all the married women they are nothing but chattle...
as they would have been in 1776.
