Billionaire Baloney
For OpEdNews: Tom Aiken - Writer

"I'm not a paranoid deranged millionaire, goddamnit. I'm a billionaire." - Howard Hughes

Warren Buffet, in conjunction with Bill Gates and a host of their billionaire familiars, recently announced, with what he must have felt amounted to deity-like largesse in this under-funded era, that he and the other party/parties aforementioned were hereby forking over half of their empires to charity come last call.

The announcement was made with embarrassingly calculated humility as the demi-gods preened and posed for the cameras. But there was an undercurrent to the proclamation, an ill wind, the unexpected promise of gifts pleading the question "What are they afraid of?"

Think about it: the whole situation almost feels like a joke -- Q: "How do you know you're growing up?" A: "The school bully tries to buy you off." These guys aren't stupid, you know -- it's all too obvious slight-of-hand upping the ante (as it were) now that we're surreptitiously sharpening our pitchforks. Somebody like Ted Turner made his fortune sniffing at the horizon... and these days the horizon smells decidedly Gaulish.

The govt could directly begin hiring people for infrastructure projects. Perhaps they could begin buying back power plants and water/ sewer systems.. this way we could move forward with real energy changes. (Private companies will not invest in what they bought unless they are told to and then they pay for it by charging the customers.. and we all know there is no real competition.. its a farce).

We honestly need a brigade of people who go block by block updating and modernizing homes/ municipal buildings/ schools/ bridges/ roads/ create usable public transport---especially high speed rail. We are NOT blind. We see what needs to happen. Why it is not happening pisses people off. AND they blame Bush, but they also blame Obama because he gave people hope that govt would work for the people. Instead the wallstreet/ bankster bailouts/ bonuses continued. Health care insurance is law of the land instead of real health care needs being addressed and a sane system like our friends to the north enjoy. "Jobless Recovery", immigration, unfair trade policies and corrupt politicians continue to suck us dry.

If they want to give half of it away, put it in the public trusts hands and "we" as a collective can decide to spend it in a manner that could possibly really create the greatest country... Until then, torches and pitch forks for these self appointed American royalty. They are still leeches who have sucked the blood and money out of the rest of us.

2. this is why they have been so heavy handed in robbing us the last few decades--they sense the end is
near (for them).

George Orwell & Jack London said it better than Marx:
