Gore Vidal on America: heading toward "a kind of dictatorship"
more: http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/cultural-capital/2010/10/cameron-barack-obama-vidal

Excerpt:

Vidal's contention is that Obama's opponents, motivated by racism, have set out to discredit him:

Repetition. They keep saying he's really a terrorist and they even deny he's black. He's obviously brown in some way - a vicious way - because we know what they are like; those are terrorists.

This febrile political atmosphere, combined with economic turmoil, is a recipe for disaster:

I should not in the least be surprised if there were a kind of dictatorship at the end of the road, which seems to be coming more and more quickly as we lose more and more wars.

5. Yeah, it took me a while to really acknowledge it (didn't want to
believe it) but the proof was so blatant and in my face. I'm so disgusted and heartbroken but that's really what's motivating so many of our "neighbors". :(

oh, Wall Street is about as popular as mumps, but very few politicos are rallying against it or basing their campaigns on it: those that do--Kucinich and Grayson--are having wild success; PRETENDING to fight Wall Street while giving it 80% of what it wants (I'm looking at you, MBNA Joe and the Goldman Sachs WH) only produces revulsion once the voters find out
