News Analysis: NATO seeks new strategy to tackle crisis
BRUSSELS, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Foreign and defence ministers from 28 NATO countries met here Thursday to discuss details of the alliance's new strategic concept, which aims to reshape the alliance in the next decade to meet emerging threats.

Analysts believe NATO countries are trying through the new strategy to rejuvenate the 61-year-old organization in the face of a changing world.

NEW THREATS HIGHLIGHTED

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a news conference the new strategic concept was to ensure "NATO evolves as the world evolves. NATO began as a regional alliance, but the threats we now face are global and our perspectives must therefore be global as well."

"To be a security alliance in the 21st century, to remain relevant and effective, NATO must have the capacity to anticipate and protect against shifting security challenges from terrorism to ballistic missiles, from cyber attacks to the proliferation of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. Relying on the strategies of the past simply will not suffice," she told journalists.
