How We Can Balance the Budget and Satisfy Both Parties.

There has been an ideological wall between the two political parties; Conservatives want lower taxes and liberals want to enact and maintain social reforms. Sure there are other peripheral issues like climate change and energy issues but those are not insurmountable like the first two issues.

Rather than focus on rescinding the Bush (now Obama) tax cuts and cutting back on social issues like Social Security, why not tweak these and satisfy the masses? No matter what else we do, the Afghanistan war needs to end and that money returned to the Treasury. The sooner that happens, the better for all of us.

Relative to the overall budget, I think we should focus on a revised and simplified tax policy. The first $50,000 or so is tax free. The tax on incomes of over $50,000 and $100,000 should be a flat 10%. All incomes above that should go to a flat 20%. Get rid of loopholes such as mortgage deductions. This will result in a great majority of Americans having lower taxes than exist today. What this does is eliminate the standard Conservative mantra. But as an offset to this, no corporation will be allowed to get government rebates. And all corporations will be required to pay their share of taxes. Where this gets support is due to the millions of people who will like their new tax position. And instead of hearing Conservatives say business have a 35% tax rate, we change it to 25% but it applies to ALL businesses. And for those corporations who have their operations offshore, they should pay a surtax based on the jobs lost due to offshore operations.

What this does is lower most everyone's taxes personally. And it holds corporations accountable to pay back their share of income that they have made in this country. Those politicians who fight this will only be those who are bought and paid for by organizations like the Koch Brothers. And we will be able to focus on weeding those people out of office. It is time to get this country back on the road to prosperity.

Satisfying the Repukes is how we got here. The only tweaking that needs to be done to Social Security is raising the cap and making the eligible age 58 instead of 65. Making the hyper rich pay 20% and removing the mortgage (the only useful deduction for the working class) would be a travesty.

Four responses and only one alternative suggestion. The others are just in it for the hate.

I am no Tea Party member. I come from a long line of Democrats. Don't contribute to the theory that the left has gone radical left. This problem will not resolve itself. And the Dems in office want to play the game just like the Rethugs do. And no one has come up with anything that anyone else will listen to or consider.

that there is no bridge to bring us together. They already have the majority of the wealth in their hands. We have just now started fighting back. Remember the booosh years? We hardly knew we had a Democratic party in DC. We are already at the center but they have gone further right. Are you asking us to move further over that center line? We need to hold the line somewhere.
