In 60-Second Ad, National Republican Trust Rewrites Recent History On Wall Street

A new minute-long ad from the National Republican Trust PAC accuses the Obama administration and the Democratic Party of swindling the American people to help "their friends on Wall Street." The carefully-worded ad paints a hopelessly inaccurate picture of what happened during the Wall Street collapse. You wouldn't know it from watching this ad, but the Wall Street "bailout" was initiated at the sharp insistence of the Bush administration in 2008, when then-Senator Obama was in the heat of the presidential contest. Even worse, the NRT claims that this year's landmark financial regulatory reform bill was a fraud because "the vast bulk of Wall Street money goes to fund" Democrats' campaigns. But by that same logic, the reform bill must be pretty potent stuff: Wall Street has made a dramatic shift in allegiances and is giving twice as much to Republicans as Democrats in the wake of the law's passage.

1. I got in quite a barroom discussion with a Republican a couple months ago

She was complaining about Obama and how he destroyed the economy. She was especially beefed about the "GM and Wall Street bailout". I hold apersonal interest in the GM bailout, but I focused on her belief that the Wall Street rescue occured under Obama's watch.

I threw dates and facts of the situation, even naming participants of the bank failures and the principles behind the emergency bailout, but she simply looked me in the eye and said: "I don't believe that".

I went just a bit further and recalled some Bush quotes from the that fall, but she still told me that she heard otherwise. This woman drives a salt truck for the state, and those people are notoriously conservative. I'd like to know how that's all working out for her now here in Ohio, but I'd really just like to see a resolution that removes the AM radios from state vehicles.

2. Gotta love these people who go on their anti-government rants as they draw paychecks from taxpayers.

I have an anti-government neighbor who listens to all of the RW radio shows. When the Environmental Working Group came out with their website several years ago, listing all of the farmers and landowners who have received federal farm program payments, you'll never guess whose name I saw on that list in my home county? To top that off, he has an off-farm job as a carrier for the U.S. POSTAL SERVICE! The truth is, he probably gets more of his income from the gubmint than anyone in a 10 mile radius of his home.

And I've found examples of my neighbor to be more of the norm than the exception.

4. I've found that many of the Tea idiots around here are retirement age

I've been in equally ignorant barroom conversations with them and pointed out that they have govt health care and income from a socialist system. The trap they always walk into is that they "payed in" and deserve to get their money out. I then ask if they're going to stop collecting when their contribution runs out. I remind them it's not called a Social Savings account.

It turns out they're just mean spirited bigots as a rule and don't want minorities or "welfare queens" to share their precious taxes, but I have to pull it out of them.

I know a friend of a friend who's a mail carrier Tea Idiot too. I warned him that his heroes wanted to privatize his job and relieve him of his pension, but he assured me Republicans love postal workers much as they do the military. I gave up on that one.

6. USPS workers that vote Republican will

be very sorry one day. The propagandists have stopped talking about privatizing the postal service -for now. The right doesn't want to alarm too many citizens at once otherwise they will lose their grip on power.

Remember their names, those mail carriers. Then at least you can tell them, "Told you."

talk about Henry Paulson asking for Carte Blanche on tax payer money with only a lousy fucking 3 page memo
to the Congress explaining himself.

What's wrong, they don't want Paulson in the ad talking about what his response was for Americans facing mortgage foreclosure?
