Good News for Salon.com!
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/15/business/media/15mag.html

Rolling Stone Editor and Adobe Executive Put $800,000 Into Salon Web Site

Jann Wenner, the founder and editor of Rolling Stone magazine and chairman of Wenner Media, said yesterday that he would invest $200,000 in the Salon Media Group, the financially struggling Internet media company, and join its board.

Also yesterday, Salon announced that John E. Warnock, co-chairman of Adobe Systems and a longtime financial backer, would invest an additional $600,000 in the Web company.

As part of the alliance with Mr. Wenner, Salon and Rolling Stone, each known for liberal political leanings, will collaborate on a series of articles about the presidential election. "I really like what they have been doing over the years," Mr. Wenner said. "I have been impressed with their journalistic drive and energy. And given that we are gearing up our political coverage, we thought they would be a good partner."

11. Yep, you forgot a cardinal rule
Owning Stock makes you part of the enemy apparently. But don't feel to bad, I also own stock and am part of the enemy. You get used to it after a while, and you can always salve your conscious by voting Liberal.

Just don't get the funny idea that you are as much of a Democrat as those who don't own any stock.

18. Modern life is full of whoring out one's ethics.
"Just don't get the funny idea that you are as much of a Democrat as those who don't own any stock."

What? Is this an example of the royal "You"? Either way I'm not one to play the "One True <insert belief here>" game.

3. bad news for liberal politics. Salon will now go RW like Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone used to be a bastion of left wing politics. But since Jann got filthy rich his magazine is now a bastion of corporatist politics. And now he is corrupting Salon.....

9. Hmmmmm
I read Salon pretty much every day, and haven't come to that conclusion--do you have any proof or evidence for this bizarre characterization? Or should I just take your word for it?

14. perhaps you have forgotten how to perceive correctly?
This nasty whore Joan Walsh would be reason number one. But if you fall for the brain washing that pushes the right to the center, you might never notice a little internet lynching here, a little cross burning there. Salon is hardly the friend of justice or the left. Joan Walsh can definitely drop dead. Isnt David Horowitz a contributor? Perhaps you should attend to the behavior of certain plants like Marc Cooper et al? There are no coincidences in all this, it would take an Ostrich to think so.

15. Well I guess I'm going to hell too
Since I don't think that much of the Free Mumia movement either. I think, given the evidence, that he probably did what he is accused of. And I agree completely with Ms. Walsh's analysis of the situation. Mumia distracts from real issues.

As for them printing David Horowitz and Andrew Sullivan (neither of which has written there for a while), well, there's a long tradition of liberals opening their floor to those they disagree with. I think that's a fine tradition.

So I suppose that makes me another internet ku klux klanner. Or, if you are feeling generous, an osterich.

19. Nope
First of all I'd have to go back and find the information, which woudl be a lot of effort for basically no pay off, since you would dispute, and neither of has enough information to conclusively prove innosence or guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Second, that's not really the point. The question is whether or not how one feels about Mumia is a solid reflection of how liberal they are (I.E. if someone wants to free Mumia he or she is a good liberal. If someone thinks that Mumia is probably guilty he or she is a phoney liberal). It sounds like that's your opinion, and if so it's nonsense, in my opinion.

I mean there are some litmus tests, I buy, but not many. Like I'd be suspicious of any self proclaimed liberal who thought President Bush was doing a good job as President.

21. agree
I seem to recall hearing about RS in the early 1970's - Jann got a large cash infusion for his struggling mag and toned down its political criticism.

4. Salon is so worried about being "fair and balanced" they slam the left
The right has so many online media outlets like Fox, Washington Times, News Max, Drudge, etc. Salon could be our best hope except that they are so worried about being called liberal that they love to bash on the left. It's typical liberals allowing the right to make the rules bullshit.

Being objective and fair is not how the right took over America and it's not how we're going to take it back.

Salon needs to expose the crooks and stop bashing the left.

If they spent half as much time and money investigation Bush as they did undermining Clinton, we'd all be better off.

16. I stopped subscribing after the first year
because I couldn't stand the 'People magazine' trend I saw. Their politics were lukewarm ochsian love-me-I'm-a-liberal 'liberal', and more than half their articles were fluff.

Sounds as though they haven't changed, except possibly for the worse.
