Bush speech contradicted himself today
Find a video and watch it again, as tough as it may be. He made several very glaring comments about "faith" with directly contradicted the entire point he was trying to get across. At one time, he said "Government can't make people love," but wants a government program to attempt to do just that. He spoke of his drinking and alluded to how he did it on his own, and was his own "faith based initiative." So, what do you need to give federal money to God for? Bush even waved a bible like two-bit preacher, telling the congregation that "this is my manual!" He then asked why should the church have to abide by federal rules just to get money? They abide by a higher power. WTF????

This one speech has more holes in it than anything else since his Iraq invasion speeches. Any one of the dem candidates could have a field day with sound bites from it. We should help!

Using this speech against Bush is a great idea. I didn't get a chance to see the speech. Can you post some specific lines from teh speech we could use?

2. Y'know...Bush...your manual says
not to bear false witness against your neighbor. Like saying Saddam had WMDs, aspirations to attack America, and ties to Al Qaeda.

3. It's SO difficult for me to watch Bush speak anymore....
Usually I can only stomach a few minutes of him at a time. I feel pity for him at the same time I feel repulsed. You can just see the falseness....

9. I leave the room. With my saluting finger aimed at the TV as I go.
The droning, twanging, smirking sound of his voice makes me ill.

4. Bush* doesn't have to abide by 'federal rules'...
...so why should the church?

- This guy is off his rocker. He wants a theocracy and doesn't even know what it means.

5. Someone needs to tell Georgie
that just holding a bible and waving it around really doesn't do much good. You actually have to open the darn thing and read it for it to have any effect on your life. Obviously, Georgie was AWOL from bible class the day they went over that part.

10. The Transcript
It is agony to wade through. Maybe they were hoping that was the case. Also, it is the WH version, so you really don't know how much has been edited out or corrected to make Bush sound articulate.

-----

Some highlights...

"Many of the problems that are facing our society are problems of the heart. Addiction is the problem of a heart -- of the heart. I know -- I told this story before. I was a drinker. I quit drinking because I changed my heart. I guess I was a one-man faith-based program."

So gimme a grant? What's your point? How does this point to the need for the church to receive government funding?

"Problems that face our society are oftentimes problems that require something greater than just a government program or a government counselor to solve."

Hmmm. Like marriage and divorce?

One of my faves...

"Government oftentimes will say, yes, you can participate, but you've got to change your board of directors to meet our qualifications, you've got to conform to our rules. The problem is, faith-based programs only conform to one set of rules, and it's bigger than government rules."

What more can I say. The stupidity in this comment is unreal...until you remember Bush said it.

"In order to get beyond the debate of process, we must say -- we must ask the question in Washington, does the program work? Does the program to help the addicted work? Is the homeless program working? That's the question that must be asked."

Okay, fair enough...if "the program" is working, it must be, well...working. Nothing better than an infusion of big government to muck up a perfectly good program, the repubs always say. Well, almost always, apparently. Conversely, if the programs are NOT working, what is Bush advocating? Pouring money into them? Isn't this precisely the approach the republicans claim cannot work for schools, the homeless, drug rehab...oops, wait...the same "programs" Bush now seems to feel need help.

There is a lot more to this speech that I didn't even go through. It is madness. Bush is a certifiable whack job who doesn't have any clue what words are spewing from his Caviar-hole.
