What a stupid reason to die - plastic surgery
Author of "First Wives Club" dies at 54.

Complications of anesthesia during plastic surgery. What a stupid way to go. Poor woman.

9. Brow Lift - Worst Plastic Surger IMO!!
Speaking as one of the few unretouched, unbotoxed, unlipo-d 44 year old women in L.A., the brow lift is the plastic surgery where I've seen the WORST results.

Anybody seriously considering this: go to www.awfulplasticsurgery.com and check out Marie Osmond, who is not permanently "shocked" by her brow lift -- she looked great before IMO!!

2. There are some legitimate reasons for plastic surgery
The article doesn't say - why was she getting plastic surgery, anyway?

3. Removing some skin under her chin
Oh well.

It's just as vain as good working people killing themselves because management cost them their jobs.

5. Then, yes, it was a senseless way to die
Dying for vanity - just silly.

4. She died from the anesthesia.
Apparently she was allergic to it. What a bad way to find out you're allergic to something. :scared:

6. Interesting that she died of anesthesia 'allergic" reaction since...
I'm pretty sure this is not her first cosmetic surgery. I wonder what they used this time around and whether different from last time.

Regardless, I agree that this is a very sad way to die-- totally unnecessary and for vanity reasons (it appears) only. We've got to do something to address the societal pressures on women (and increasingly men too) to be bone thin and forever young.

7. it may have been the same one
Allergies often take several sensitizations before becoming full blown. She may even have had minor symptoms before that were written off as being part of the general post-operative swelling and reddening.

8. Years ago...
as a reporter, I did a story on anethesia and how so many deaths were attributed to "misadventure under anesthesia". A nice, generalized, sanitized way to contain scrutiny of pharmaceuticals. At the time sodium pentathol was high on the list of misadventures.

As I understand it, Ms. Goldsmith suffered a heart attack during the administration of the anesthesia and the doctors were unable to revive her.

10. Anesthesia
needs to be administered very carefully. I often wonder about these specialists in vanity surgeries, just how expert they really are. Let's face it top notch anesthesiologists are probably busy assisting at life saving surgeries, like transplants, not face lifts and tucks.

11. You can die crossing the street too.
I've had plastic surgery and I came through with flying colors. You take a chance just waking up in the morning, these days. The plastic surgery was worth it, for me.

12. And your point is?
ALL surgery carries risk of death. She rolled the dice and it came up snake eyes. Hey, you can die driving to the convience store for a bag of chips.
