Republican Excuses Are Getting Old
They have an excuse for everything. No jobs created? It was the stock market bubble, and terrorism, and the general economic cycle. Recsssions happen. Anyway, the country was in recession before Bill Clinton left office.

The huge deficits? The terrorist attack caused a lot of spending on Homeland Security and defense. We had to go to war. The taxcuts have nothing to do with the huge deficits. Taxcuts bring money into the Treasury. Everybody knows that.

Terrorist attack on 9/11? If Bill Clinton had taken care of al Qaeda when he had the chance, we wouldn't have had the terrorist attack on 9/11. George Bush is only doing in Iraq what Bill Clinton didn't have the guts to do. And we haven't had any terrorist attacks since 9/11, if you notice?

He didn't lie about WMDs in going to war with Iraq. Everybody thought Iraq had WMDs and were looking to build nuclear weapons. Even Bill Clinton said as much in 1998. Saddam was part of the terrorist network and it was good thing that we captured the dictator. And so on and so on...

1. If a Republican actually took responsibility for one single thing
I'd have a heart attack.

2. But sold to the public VERY SUCCESSFULLY!
Thanks to the media. And this holds for most parts of the European media too. No fundamentally critical questions are asked. Referring to the obscure WMD I just read in a highly-regarded German newspaper, Bush and Blair still do not admit the possibility of an error in judging the WMD-question. That they could have deliberately lied is implicitly excluded by this formulation.

3. The problem is
people believe them. So who told memebers of the UN that there were WMD's?

4. Their rhetoric should be viewed
as originating on the other side of the looking glass, since whatever they say they'll do has an opposite effect on this side.

I just wonder how long people are going to fall for the plutocrats' line that if they keep doing exactly the wrong thing long enough, everybody will miraculously become prosperous. It's enought to make you want to force-feed Howard Zinn to all Americans, starting in about the fourth grade.

Bush's SOU address tonight (which I will miss, since my foot would be through the TV screen should I try to watch) will reportedly tell us now that the rich have been fattened sufficiently, they will concentrate on jobs.

Look out below! That means the pace of job destruction and job exportation is likely to increase, just as his proposed easing of immigration rules will give us lots of people willing to take the jobs that used to pay $8/hr for minimum wage.

Of course, all these are "unintended consequences of sound programs." We'll just have to wait and see how they blame their whole rotten mess on Clinton.
