Massachusetts - 14 straight years of GOP Governors
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 08:26 PM by bushwakker
The next time some right winger attacks the Bay State as some kind of out of touch bastion of Looney Leftism - remind them that the last 4 governors of the commonwealth have been Republicans. I don't know offhand how many current members of our state supreme court were appointed by the GOP (I do know that the Chief Justice was appointed by GOPer Bill Weld), but after 14 years I'd hazard a guess that most of them were GOP appointees. This is one of the reasons that I think this whole notion that John Kerry can be savaged like Dukakis in 1988 is wrong.

Not to offend anyone here but Mike Dukakis was a short, ethinic-looking man with a strange ethnic name who was the chief executive of the state. John Kerry is a tall, patrician, WASPish guy who just happens to be a war hero. In addition he has not been governor of this state and cannot be fairly tarnished with the "Massachusetts liberal excesses" that the GOP with sling at him.

1. Mass elected Liberal Republicans a la Snowe, Chaffee, Jeffords
until Mitt Romney.

Most of the Mass. judiciary is conservative (at least by Mass. standards). But compared to the rest of the country, I guess we're lefties.
