I am so sick hearing that Bush* inherited a recession. Another lie!
If I hear him or any of his thugs mention this ONE more time, I think I am going to scream.

The truth is: The recession officially began in March of 2001 -- two months after Bush was sworn in -- according to the universally acknowledged arbiter of such things, the National Bureau of Economic Research.

No one ever mentions how the briliant Bill Clinton did indeed inherit a recession and didn't whine about it and blame Bush I. Instead, in 1993, he proposed a budget to stimulate the economy and create jobs and NOT one, repeat, NOT one repug voted for it. Gloom and doom was constantly reported by OxyRush etc.

The rest of the story is history.

Why don't these Dems fight back on this point? GRRRRR!

1. This is just another one of those
"say it often enough and it becomes true" statements. Just like the economy is booming, yea. Jobs arent important in a booming economy. Thats like saying "steering isnt important in cars."

4. It's in "politics 101"
Anything good that happens (even if only a day after you take office) is because of you.

Anything bad that happens is because of the most recent office-holder from the other party.

6. Ronald Reagan would have said:
"We inherited this recession from the PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION"

7. Well, recessions do skip a generation.
They're a recessive trait on the father's side that only shows up during Republican presidencies.

8. Better point. The recession officially ended in December of 2001.
Over two years ago.

9. Last week, CNN's Lou Dobbs chided Steve Forbes for saying that.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 09:30 PM by oasis
Lou said that he was sick and tired of that excuse. He and Forbes started to go at it. At the end of the argument, Forbes was sporting the sheepish grin of defeat, clearly embarrassed that he was busted carrying water for Bush.
